About this guide

thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.

For a desk or bedside table, choose Dyson Cool CF1 (AM12) for its manual tilt, on-machine controls and MyDyson scheduling. Choose the full-size Dyson Cool AM07 tower when you want a tall floor fan and a physical remote, provided you can find a complete US kit. This comparison covers cooling-only bladeless fans; choose a different appliance if you need heating, purification or air conditioning.

Quick picks

  • Best for a raised surface: CF1. Its desk-fan format, manual tilt and accessible speed dial make it our pick when you want to aim the breeze from a tabletop.
  • Best for floor placement: full-size AM07. Its tall loop and included remote suit a floor position beside a desk or bed; insist on a working remote.
  • Need an adjustable-height pedestal or another brand? Start with our quiet-fan and tower-versus-pedestal guide.

Availability checked November 3, 2026: Dyson's Black/Blueberry CF1 page says in stock; its Satin Black/Nickel and White/Silver AM07 pages say out of stock. The AM07 recommendation is conditional on finding a complete, correctly identified unit; those pages do not establish Amazon stock or prove discontinuation. CF1 at Dyson, AM07 at Dyson.

A footprint trap: CF1's US page labels 14.2 in as skirt diameter and 5.9 ft as shroud diameter. Those unusual labels and units need clarification; we would not use either as a verified base footprint. Obtain a dimension drawing or measure the exact unit before ordering for a narrow shelf. Do not silently swap the fields or convert the apparent error into a different specification.

Best for a desk or bedside table: Dyson Cool CF1 / AM12

Choose CF1 when the fan will sit on furniture and you need vertical aiming: its manual describes tilting the loop forward or backward while holding the base and top. The combined power button and speed dial adjusts airflow locally, while separate buttons control Sleep mode and oscillation. Sleep mode lowers airflow and dims the LCD; a dimmed screen is not a promise of complete darkness.

The US CF1 manual lists a loop amplifier, base and remote in the box. The remote covers power, speed, oscillation, Sleep mode and timer. The retail page's box section names only the fan, so use the manual's parts list to check an offer rather than assuming the remote is absent.

MyDyson adds speed, oscillation, Sleep mode, timer control and a seven-day schedule. App functions require Wi-Fi and a compatible device; choose the local controls if you prefer adjusting the fan itself. The manual documents the timer on the remote, so keep that remote even if you normally use the app.

There is a control-location conflict: the manual puts oscillation on the right, while the product FAQ says left. Follow the labeled button on your machine. For a replacement, Dyson's UK page identifies CF1 remote 974412-01; a US replacement part number was not established, so confirm US fit with Dyson before ordering.

Best for floor placement: Dyson Cool AM07 full-size tower

AM07 is our floor choice because of its 39.6-in overall height and 7.5-in base diameter with plate. Check the space beside the bed or chair, including room for oscillation, rather than balancing a tower on furniture to lift the breeze. Dyson supplies a curved, magnetized remote and lists 10 airflow settings.

The remote is central to the purchase. The US AM07 manual says to point it toward the front of the base, and shows power, airflow, oscillation and timer controls. Store it on top with its buttons facing down. The product FAQ identifies its battery as CR2032.

Without the remote, pressing the standby button switches the fan on or off; holding it cycles airflow upward to maximum and then down. Oscillation and the sleep timer cannot be operated without the remote. A fan-only offer therefore gives up useful functions unless you secure the correct replacement.

Dyson's full-size AM07 support page lists Iron remote 965824-02. However, the linked part page names the AM06 and AM08 models in its compatibility list without naming AM07. Have Dyson confirm fit against the serial number; the support page also marks that remote out of stock at this check.

Identify the variant before comparing an offer

Dyson's US fan index calls CF1 AM12, separately lists the AM06 desk fan, and offers separate full-size and Mini-Tower routes for AM07. AM12 is the CF1 model identifier, not a tower version of AM07.

The AM07 Mini-Tower support page explicitly names a Mini-Tower and a replacement mini loop amplifier. Do not borrow that page's parts or a seller's Mini-Tower dimensions for the full-size tower in our table. Match the complete name and machine label, not just the AM07 family code or a similar loop silhouette.

Our exact tower reference is the US Satin Black/Nickel full-size AM07; Dyson also documents a White/Silver full-size AM07. The retail identifiers in our table are the US pages' local product SKUs, rather than the different global SKUs also present in their page data. Use the model, finish and local identifier together to match an offer. Check refurbished condition separately from the size or model identifier.

Buying guide: aiming, noise and the complete kit

Desk height versus floor height

Plan the position before choosing the fan. For CF1, check the whole loop against a monitor or shelf and allow room for its manual tilt. For AM07, check the floor position and whether furniture blocks the airflow path. Neither overall-height figure tells you exactly where the breeze will hit when you are seated or lying down; verify the arrangement rather than buying by height alone.

CF1's manual gives selectable oscillation angles of 10°, 40° and 70°; AM07's product page advertises oscillation up to 70°. A shared maximum sweep does not give the tower CF1's documented tilt. If adjustable pedestal height is essential, return to the broader fan comparison.

Which is the quieter bladeless fan?

There is no defensible acoustic winner from these documents. CF1's 29 dBA Quiet Mode and 42 dBA maximum are separate operating conditions. Dyson's “up to 80% quieter” footnote compares maximum fan speed with Sleep mode on CF1; it is not a CF1-versus-AM07 result. A matched measurement distance and airflow condition are not supplied for this comparison.

AM07's current US page advertises Night mode, but its linked manual describes a sleep timer and does not identify a separate Night-mode command. Keep that documentation mismatch unresolved rather than assuming it offers CF1's dimmed-display behavior. Choose CF1 for its explicitly documented low-airflow Sleep mode if that feature decides the purchase.

Likewise, the published projection claims—97 gallons per second for CF1 and up to 132 for AM07—are maker airflow claims, not a matched-noise comparison or room-area ratings. They do not establish that AM07 is quieter, or promise those flows at the quietest setting.

Cleaning the loop and inlet

Both manuals say to unplug before cleaning, wipe with a dry or damp cloth, and avoid detergents or polish. Check the air-inlet holes and the small opening inside the loop amplifier; Dyson specifies a soft brush to remove debris. A clean-looking loop does not replace checking those inlet holes.

“Bladeless” describes the exposed loop: Dyson's product explanations still describe an internal impeller. It does not turn either cooling fan into a purifier. For a separate filtration purchase, use our air-purifier buying guide.

New, refurbished or old stock: what must arrive?

Ask for the exact US machine label, electrical rating and supplied mains plug; do not assume an imported unit is electrically interchangeable. The manuals describe assembling the loop onto the base. Check that both pieces and the working model-matched remote are included, then confirm the cord is undamaged. AM07's manual advises against an extension cord, so plan a nearby outlet.

Dyson's current US warranty table gives new fans two years and Dyson Renewed fans six months. Its refurbished outlet says refurbished sales are final. These are Dyson's terms, not proof of another seller's cover; verify the seller and keep the receipt. An old-stock description alone does not establish warranty eligibility or kit completeness.

Before ordering the exact kit
  1. Identify the machine

    Match CF1 / AM12 or full-size AM07; resolve any Mini-Tower wording first.

  2. Confirm the contents

Require the base, loop, correct US power connection and working model-matched remote.

  3. Check the condition and seller

Confirm new versus refurbished, warranty cover and return terms for that specific offer.

How we choose

We compare official US product pages, model-matched manuals, spare-part compatibility pages and Dyson's condition terms. Our picks prioritize placement, aiming, usable controls and kit completeness. This is document research, without physical testing or a listening comparison. We flag inconsistent maker information and leave unsupported noise, footprint and power comparisons open. Our full approach is on How we choose.

Verdict

Buy CF1 / AM12 for a raised surface, manual tilt, local controls and MyDyson scheduling. Choose the full-size AM07 for floor placement and its remote-controlled tower format only after confirming a complete US kit and availability. If quietness is the deciding factor, CF1 has the clearer published mode-specific figures; the evidence does not establish a head-to-head noise winner.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dyson CF1 the same fan as AM12?

Yes: Dyson's US fan-support index identifies the Cool CF1 as AM12. AM07 is a different tower model, and Dyson provides separate support routes for its full-size tower and Mini-Tower. Match the model on the machine label and the complete product name before ordering; an AM07 Mini-Tower support page does not establish the full-size tower's dimensions.

Is the CF1 quieter than the AM07?

The cited documents do not establish that. Dyson lists CF1 sound levels of 29 dBA in Quiet Mode and 42 dBA at maximum, but supplies no comparable sound figure in dBA for the AM07 tower in the US sources used here. Its CF1 claim of up to 80% quieter compares maximum fan speed with Sleep mode on that fan, rather than comparing CF1 with AM07.

Can I use a Dyson CF1 or AM07 without the remote?

CF1 has a power and speed dial, a Sleep-mode button and an oscillation button on the machine; MyDyson also provides remote adjustments and timer control. AM07 can be switched on or off at its standby button, and holding that button adjusts airflow. Its manual expressly says oscillation and the sleep timer cannot be operated without the remote, so check the remote before accepting an incomplete kit.

Do these Dyson fans purify air or work as air conditioners?

This comparison covers cooling-only fans, not Dyson purifier or heater combinations. Dyson describes AM07's function as personal cooling and labels both product pages as fans rather than air-conditioning units. Choose by the breeze, placement and controls you need. If filtration is the buying job, use our air-purifier guide instead of treating the bladeless loop as evidence of purification.

Is a refurbished AM07 the same purchase as a new one?

Check condition and terms separately from the model name. Dyson's current US warranty page lists two years for new fans and six months for Dyson Renewed fans; its outlet says refurbished purchases are final sale. Those terms concern Dyson's program and do not establish another seller's cover. Also confirm the full-size model, US electrical rating, base, loop and working remote before buying.
