About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
Choose the Vornado 630 for a bedside table or home office where its shallower body and simple side dial suit the space. Choose the Vornado 660 when you want longer claimed air reach and controls on top of the fan, particularly for floor placement. The larger model earns its place through reach and access; the published sound figures do not establish a bedroom quietness winner.

The published body depths are 8.6 inches for the 630 and 11.75 inches for the 660. This comparison shows body depth only; it is not an installation-clearance allowance.
Source: Vornado's US product specification tables, linked above; additional operating space is needed around the fan.
Best for a smaller bedside table: Vornado 630
The 630 is our default pick for a smaller bedroom or office setup. Vornado describes it for small to midsize rooms and explicitly permits floor or tabletop placement. Its side dial selects three speeds, while the pivoting head lets you change the direction without moving the entire fan.
That combination suits someone who wants to set the breeze before sitting down or getting into bed. The shallower body leaves more room to work with than the 660, but measure the usable table surface before choosing it: a fan that fits only with its cord hanging over the edge is the wrong fit.
Its other practical advantage is the clipped grille. The current manual recommends a screwdriver and explains that a flathead can help release difficult clips. That is less screw handling than the 660 requires, although blade removal still calls for pliers. Choose it for straightforward controls and placement, rather than an unverified claim that it is quieter.

Best for longer claimed air reach: Vornado 660
The 660 is the upgrade for a longer airflow path or a preference for top controls. Vornado claims 100 feet of air travel and describes four speed settings selected by buttons at the top. Its chrome glide lets the head tilt between horizontal and vertical airflow positions.
The control position is the strongest reason to choose it for the floor: reaching down from above may suit your layout better than finding the 630's side dial. That is a placement judgment, not a claim that either can be operated without reaching the fan. The 660 manual labels the speeds Low, Med, High and Turbo.
Budget space for the entire body and access to the buttons. The 660 is deeper, wider, taller and heavier according to the table; it also needs a screwdriver for grille removal. Buy the extra reach and control layout if you need them, rather than upgrading solely because the model number is larger.

The last rows come from Vornado's 660 AE page and 6303DC page. Those features belong to those models. A listing that says “DC” deserves its own model check; do not assume it is the plain 660 with an upgraded motor.
If adjusting the fan from bed is a requirement, settle that before selecting a color or chasing an offer. The plain-model manuals document controls on the fan and do not list an included remote or timer.
Buying guide: room fit, airflow and bedroom controls
Measure a usable position. Mark out the dimensions in the table, then check room for the cord, the moving head and your hand at the controls. Do not regard the case dimensions as permission to squeeze either fan into a cabinet. Vornado's safety instructions call for a stable surface, separation from fabrics and an accessible outlet; they also say not to route the cord under furniture or carpeting.
Plan the airflow path. The 70-foot and 100-foot claims describe air travel, not floor area or guaranteed performance around furniture. Neither linked product table supplies a square-foot room rating. Use the 660's longer claim as a reason to shortlist it for a longer path, not as a promise that it serves a particular room size.
Vornado's X60-series owner's guide, which includes the 660, advises positioning the circulator with unobstructed airflow, then adjusting location, angle and speed and allowing a few minutes for an airflow pattern to develop. Start there before deciding you need more fan.
Check access from your actual seat. For a table beside you, the 630's side dial may be convenient. For a fan below you, the 660's top buttons may be easier to approach. These are our layout recommendations based on documented control positions; reach will depend on your furniture.
Map the space
Use the published body dimensions, leaving room for aiming, controls and an unobstructed airflow path.
Plan the cord route
Keep the outlet accessible and the cord clear of furniture, carpeting and walking routes.
Choose the controls
Favor the side dial or top buttons according to where you will actually reach the fan.
Published airflow and sound: what the figures establish
The comparison preserves the exact Air Volume (CFM) and Sound (dBA) labels on Vornado's embedded tables. Those rows contain sequences, without identifying each entry's speed or giving a sound-measurement distance. They do not establish either fan's noise at the same delivered airflow.
In particular, treating the last sound value as a confirmed lowest-setting rating would add information the tables do not provide. The smaller number at the end of the 660's sequence does not settle which fan you will prefer beside the bed. Nor should a wattage entry be paired with a particular sound or airflow entry without a documented setting map.
OSHA's acoustics guidance explains that sound pressure depends on distance and the surrounding environment. That is why we retain the measurement gaps instead of declaring a quietness winner from unmatched numbers.
Cleaning, carrying and the complete purchase
For routine dust removal, the 660 guide describes using a vacuum brush on the front grille and air inlets. For deeper cleaning, follow the exact manual: the 630 uses grille clips, while the 660 has four screws at the back of the inlet grille. Both current guides require unplugging before grille or blade removal.
Blade removal also differs in tool wording: the 630 requires pliers; the 660 recommends them. Both say the retaining nut loosens clockwise, and both prohibit putting the blade in a dishwasher. “Removable grille” therefore does not mean every cleaning task is tool-free.
If you move the fan often, favor the lighter 630 when the rest of the decision is tied. Before carrying or repositioning either, Vornado says to switch off and unplug; never use the cord as a handle.
Both US models have a 120V, 60Hz supply specification and a 6-foot cord with a fused polarized plug. Their documented setup uses the fan's power cord at an electrical outlet. Choose the US version and confirm its rating label, rather than substituting an import or assuming a voltage converter is part of the purchase.
Seasonal offers: match the full identifier in the table before clicking through, including the AE/DC distinction and the intended color. Specifications and model availability were checked November 2, 2026; this guide makes no discount claim. Use the manufacturer links in each pick to check the exact model currently offered.
How we choose
We have not physically tested these fans. We compare official US product pages, their embedded specification tables, product data and model-matched manuals. We weigh placement, control access and cleaning work, and keep manufacturer reach claims separate from room-area recommendations. Our judgments about convenience follow from those documented features; sound at your intended position remains unverified. See How we choose for our editorial method.
Verdict
Get the 630 when a shallower, lighter fan with a side dial fits the position. Get the 660 when its longer claimed reach and top buttons justify the larger body. If control from bed is essential, compare a separately documented remote or connected model before buying either plain circulator.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Vornado 630 or 660 better for a bedroom?
Choose the 630 when table space and simple controls matter most: its published depth is 8.6 inches, against the 660's 11.75 inches. Choose the 660 for its longer claimed air reach and top-mounted buttons, especially if you plan to put it on the floor. Neither recommendation establishes which will sound quieter at your bed; the published noise sequences lack speed labels and measurement distances.
Is the Vornado 660 quieter than the 630?
The official tables do not establish that. Vornado publishes Sound (dBA) as 54/50/47 for the 630 and 59/53/47/43 for the 660, without labelling each value's speed or the measurement distance. Do not call the last number a verified low-speed rating or compare the fans at matched airflow from these sequences alone. Choose by fit and controls unless Vornado supplies comparable measurement conditions.
What is the difference between the Vornado 660 and 660 AE?
The 660 AE is a separate Alexa-enabled model. Vornado describes voice control and control through the Alexa app for the AE; the plain 660's documentation describes local push-button controls. The AE's similar appearance does not make its electrical or sound specifications transferable to the plain model. Check the full model name and its own manual before buying for app or voice control.
Can you remove the grilles and blades for cleaning?
Yes. The current 630 guide describes grille clips and recommends a screwdriver if needed; the 660 guide requires a screwdriver to remove four grille screws. For blade removal, the 630 guide requires pliers and the 660 guide recommends them. Both instruct you to unplug before disassembly and turn the blade-retaining nut clockwise to loosen it. Follow the guide for the exact fan you receive.
