About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
For most trips, choose the Yogasleep Hushh 2: USB-C charging, a toddler lock and an auto-off timer make it our most practical portable sound machine. Choose the LectroFan Micro2 for a smaller bag, with a maker-listed 2 x 2 in body, but read its battery caveat before ordering. For a guest room, SNOOZ Go 2 combines built-in sounds, USB-C and a night light; LectroFan Alpha suits buyers who want pink or brown noise and a folding stand.

“Not confirmed” means the cited documentation does not settle the feature; it is not a claim that the feature cannot exist. Dimensions are reproduced in each maker’s order. Micro2’s manual names the USB-A power source but does not label the device-side connector, so pack its supplied cable rather than assuming your phone cable fits.

Best for most trips: Yogasleep Hushh 2

Yogasleep
A clip-on rechargeable sound machine with six sounds, a timer, a dimmable night light and a toddler lock, made for strollers, bags and travel.
Check package and model options
- 6 sounds
- 34 h battery
Pick this for a bag attachment, backlit controls, a lock and a night light that can operate independently of the sound. Its model-specific sound list has six choices spanning Dohm sound, white noise, nature and melodies. Pink and brown noise are not identified in that list.
The documentation conflict: the product page and Hushh2 support overview describe six sounds and up to 34 hours, while Yogasleep’s nursery category grid lists 12 sounds and a 12-hour battery under Hushh 2. The six-sound, 34-hour figures in this guide are explicitly the model-document claims; confirm them for the unit supplied. Compare the model support overview and nursery grid.
Check the name: Lunar Gray and Moonlit Blue are Hushh 2 colors. The original Hushh has three sounds; Hushh+ is the separate model with 20 sounds and Bluetooth in Yogasleep’s comparison table. Do not transfer those features to this pick.
Best for a small bag: LectroFan Micro2
Micro2 offers 11 built-in choices: five fan sounds, four white/pink/brown-noise variations and two surf sounds. A slide switch selects Bluetooth, off or built-in sounds. That physical mode choice makes it easy to leave the phone out of your bedtime setup. Original guide.
Read the generation carefully: the older guide specifies up to 40 hours of built-in sounds; the manual currently linked by the maker’s shop specifies up to 24 hours, with both giving up to 20 hours of Bluetooth audio at typical volume. That shop calls the product Micro2+, advertises 20+ hours generally, and reserves stereo pairing for two Micro2+ units. Current shop and manual links.
We cannot establish that every Micro2 offer ships the same revision. Buy for its size and sound selection; ask which generation ships if runtime or stereo pairing decides the purchase. The current linked manual lists about 2.5 hours to charge.
Best speaker-and-light combination: SNOOZ Go 2
Go 2 has 12 built-in sounds, including white and brown noise, fan sounds, nature sounds and ambient tracks. A USB-C cable and travel pouch are included. It works without an app, Wi-Fi or subscription. SNOOZ explicitly confirms playback while charging, useful for a guest-room setup. Go 2 details.
Hold the sound button for five seconds to switch between built-in sounds and Bluetooth. The night light requires the speaker to be powered on; hold power for five seconds to switch the light. The manual suggests volume level 1 for minimal sound when using the light. Official English manual.
Check the generation and delivery: the original Go has six sounds and a 20-hour claim; Go 2 adds the expanded library, pouch and loop lock. The order page mixes Add to Cart with preorder and coming-soon copy, so confirm dispatch before a holiday deadline. Its 24-hour headline is not a separately documented Bluetooth runtime.
Best simple pink/brown-noise option: LectroFan Alpha
This is Alpha, model ASM1026. Its seven main sounds comprise a heartbeat, two fans, pink noise, brown noise and two ocean sounds. The folding stand suits a shelf or bedside table. The maker’s shop additionally describes five nursery rhymes, accessed by holding S and Power while the device is off. Maker shop.
The runtime caveat: the shop advertises 24+ hours, while Sound of Sleep says up to 40 hours at normal volume. Neither page explains the difference. The manual asks for at least two hours of charging before first use; that is not a full-charge-time specification. It explicitly permits a standard USB-A to USB-C cable. Alpha manual.

How we choose
We compare manufacturer specifications, exact-model manuals, physical controls, charging requirements and conflicting claims. These are research-based recommendations; we have not physically evaluated the machines. We checked current portable-query results before selecting the shortlist, then used official documentation for product facts. Sound quality, audible looping and actual battery endurance remain unmeasured here. Our research method explains the approach.
Buying guide: pack for offline use
Start with the sound. Alpha and Micro2 explicitly list pink and brown noise. Hushh 2’s model-specific list does not name either. Use our white vs pink vs brown noise guide to choose a sound type. For broader bedroom options, see best white noise machines; for audio worn by the listener, see sleep earbuds and headphones.
Separate modes and accessories. Micro2’s current linked manual rates built-in sounds and Bluetooth separately at typical volume. Go 2’s general claim does not specify a separate Bluetooth figure or a sound-plus-light runtime. Do not plan a trip by assuming every feature can run together for the headline duration. Try your intended settings and charging kit before departure.
Check the wall supply. Micro2 documents a USB-A power source; Alpha specifies a USB-A to USB-C cable; Go 2 requires a certified 5 V DC supply up to 1 A. For international travel, check your own adapter’s input label and destination plug shape. A machine’s USB socket does not establish its wall adapter’s mains compatibility.
Choose built-in sound mode
Select your preferred sound on the machine and check playback with your phone disconnected.
Check the complete charging kit
Pack the working cable and a compatible USB supply; check the wall adapter for your destination.
Protect your chosen settings
Use a documented lock where available and switch the machine off for packing.
All four provide controls for their built-in sounds on the device. Hushh 2 documents a toddler lock. Micro2’s guide explicitly says to put its slider in OFF when not in use.
Placement with children. Yogasleep’s nursery page says at least 7 feet from the crib and below 50 decibels; its general placement article says at least 3 feet from the sleeper’s head. Those are different published instructions; follow the nursery-specific guidance for that use. Alpha’s manual calls for adult supervision, an appropriate volume and no placement in a crib. Go 2’s manual prohibits use while sleeping with the device in a bed, car seat or stroller, despite its page promoting stroller attachment. SNOOZ also asks users to maximize distance and use the lowest required volume. See Yogasleep’s placement article.
Verdict
Choose Hushh 2 when a lock and timer matter most, Micro2 when its smaller published dimensions suit your bag, Go 2 for the included pouch and confirmed playback while charging, or Alpha for pink/brown noise and a folding stand. Confirm disputed battery claims against the exact unit before relying on them for a trip.

Frequently asked questions
Do portable sound machines work without a phone or Wi-Fi?
Yes, the picks here have built-in sounds and controls on the device. Micro2 has separate Bluetooth and sound-machine modes; Go 2 also switches between its own sounds and Bluetooth audio. A phone supplies streamed audio in Bluetooth mode, but you can use the built-in sound selection instead. Go 2 explicitly requires no app, Wi-Fi or subscription.
Which travel sound machines charge over USB-C?
USB-C is confirmed for Hushh 2, LectroFan Alpha and SNOOZ Go 2. Alpha’s manual specifies a USB-A to USB-C cable. Micro2’s manual specifies a USB-A power source and a supplied cable, without naming its device-side socket. Pack the actual included cable and check it with your charger before departure; a connector label alone does not confirm every cable and charger combination.
Can I use a portable sound machine while it charges?
SNOOZ explicitly confirms that Go 2 can play while charging. Alpha’s manual says a USB-A adapter or a computer USB port can power and charge it. We have not confirmed simultaneous playback and charging for Hushh 2 from its fetched model-specific instructions. Check the exact manual before planning to leave a travel machine permanently connected in a guest room.
Which portable sound machine has a timer and button lock?
Hushh 2 documents both: a toddler lock and an auto-off timer with 30, 60 and 120 minute settings. The Micro2, Go 2 and Alpha documents checked here do not confirm both features, so we mark them as unconfirmed. If preventing accidental changes and setting an automatic stop matter more than Bluetooth playback, Hushh 2 is our pick.
