About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
Choose the Levoit Classic 160 for most small spaces, particularly if cleaning access matters: its 2.5 L tank sits in a smaller body, and its US manual allows specified removable parts in the dishwasher. Buy the Dual 150 for a 3 L tank and optional essential oils in the water. Both are top-fill ultrasonic humidifiers with manual output knobs, so choose a different model if you want automatic humidity regulation.
Quick picks
- Small shelf, simpler cleaning routine: Classic 160 at Levoit. The dishwasher permission has important limits, explained below.
- More water per fill, or scents: Dual 150 at Levoit. Its larger tank does not bring a longer published maximum runtime.
- A humidifier with a humidistat: move to the Classic 300S in our best humidifiers guide, which covers other sizes and designs too.
Compare the full US model numbers, electrical ratings and box contents below. Check the selected color and unit count before ordering; a replacement-sponge pack is a supply, not another humidifier.

The Dual's tank holds 3 L against the Classic's 2.5 L. Both nevertheless claim the same maximum runtime on minimum mist, with actual duration dependent on room temperature and humidity; do not read “larger tank” as a guaranteed longer interval between refills.
Source: Levoit's US manuals linked above; tank capacity is not a runtime comparison
Best for small spaces and easier cleaning: Classic 160
The Classic 160 is our default when you want a manual Levoit humidifier and have limited space. Its smaller published dimensions help with shelf fit, and the US manual gives it a practical cleaning advantage: the tank, cover, water filter and housing, mist tube and float can go in a dishwasher with water below 158°F / 70°C. The electrical base cannot. Ask Levoit for detailed dishwasher instructions, as the manual directs, and check the instructions supplied with your unit.
Its manual prohibits essential oils in the tank and base. Choose the Dual instead if tank aromatherapy is a feature you intend to use.
Best for a larger tank and scents: Dual 150
Choose Dual 150 when its 3 L capacity or oil compatibility matters more than the Classic's smaller body and dishwasher permission. The VeSync manufacturer store identifies the white model as a non-smart humidifier and diffuser. “Dual” does not mean automatic humidity control.
Its US manual permits an optional 10–15 drops of essential oil in the water tank. The trade-off is maintenance: no part goes in a dishwasher, and the manual prohibits detergents. Follow its rinse-and-descale instructions rather than the Classic's washing procedure. VeSync's store showed this model as sold out when checked; check the maker's current availability before planning a gift.
Output dial versus a real humidistat
On both models, the knob changes mist output. Both manuals tell you to lower that output or turn the machine off once the room reaches your preferred humidity. Neither documents a humidity setpoint or automatic adjustment based on a room reading. Their automatic stop applies when the tank is empty or removed; it does not mean they stop at your chosen humidity.
For that job, the existing Classic 300S recommendation is the meaningful upgrade. Its US manual documents a humidity sensor, Auto Mode and target adjustment through VeSync. Buying a separate hygrometer for either smaller model lets you make the adjustment; it does not give the humidifier automatic control.
Top filling helps; the base still needs cleaning
Both lids lift off for filling. Switch off first, use room-temperature purified or distilled water, stay below the tank's maximum line, and do not pour through the mist tube or directly into the base chamber. These instructions come from both US manuals.
For an easy-to-clean humidifier, inspect the maintenance route as closely as the tank opening. Both manuals' descaling procedures include the tank, base chamber, transducer, removable float, water-filter assembly and noise silencer. A wide opening does not remove those jobs.
The manuals call for fresh water daily and cleaning every 3 days. Both describe descaling with 3 US cups / 710 mL of distilled white vinegar, a 15–20 minute soak with the tank seated on the base, and a separate soak for the float, filter assembly and noise silencer. Use the included brush and a soft cloth, rinse until the vinegar smell is gone, and dry the parts. Follow the linked manual for removal and reassembly, especially the float and noise silencer.
Daily water change
Unplug, empty and refill with fresh water; keep the electrical base out of water.
Clean every 3 days
Follow your model's procedure. Classic 160 allows specified dishwasher parts; Dual 150 does not.
Remove scale when needed
Use the manual's vinegar soak, brush, rinse and drying procedure; the powered base never goes in a dishwasher.
Lights, noise and placement
Both US manuals describe a red refill light that turns on when empty and turns off when filled. Neither documents a control to disable that warning. If darkness even after the tank runs out is essential, verify the exact unit's behavior before buying.
Both manuals publish noise below 28 dB without identifying a mist setting, measurement distance or sound weighting. That leaves no supported quietness winner here; these are manufacturer specifications, not a comparison from room measurements.
Both manuals specify a hard, flat, water-resistant surface at least 12 inches / 30 cm from walls, with mist aimed away from walls, furniture, bedding and appliances. They also say to keep the humidifier out of children's reach. Measure space for that clearance and lid removal, rather than matching only the body dimensions.
Water, filters and the complete order
Start with the exact US humidifier kit, distilled water, distilled white vinegar and a soft cloth. Both manuals identify a power cord and polarized plug for AC 120 V, 60 Hz operation; this is wall power, with no separate USB supply listed. A cleaning brush and installed water-filter sponge are included, and the Dual adds a spare sponge. Oils are optional for the Dual and prohibited for the Classic.
If you searched for the best humidifier without a filter, neither is literally filter-free. The Classic's manual describes its sponge as preventing large particles from clogging the water outlet; both manuals include cleaning or replacement instructions. They still recommend purified or distilled water. Contact Levoit for the correct replacement sponge or damaged filter assembly using your exact model number; do not substitute a visually similar part.
The optional Levoit demineralization cartridge explicitly lists both Classic 160 and Dual 150 as compatible. It is a separate accessory, not the outlet sponge. We would start with distilled water: the EPA's humidifier guidance recommends low-mineral water and cautions that demineralization accessories vary in effectiveness. Do not regard a cartridge as a replacement for cleaning.
EPA also advises keeping indoor relative humidity from exceeding 50 percent and reducing output if surrounding surfaces become damp or windows collect condensation. For the wider water-and-maintenance trade-off, see evaporative vs ultrasonic humidifiers.
Useful companion: TempPro TP50 humidity monitor
The existing TempPro TP50, also encountered with earlier branding, displays temperature, relative humidity and high/low records. Its maker's page lists a stand, magnetic back and hanging mount. Use the numeric humidity reading to decide when to reduce either humidifier's output.

TempPro
A basic battery-powered thermo-hygrometer (sold for years as the ThermoPro TP50) with an LCD showing high and low records, a comfort indicator and three ways to place it.
Check package and model options
- Temperature, relative humidity
One maker conflict deserves attention: the title calls it backlit, while the specifications say “Backlight: No.” Do not choose it for an illuminated readout. Our indoor humidity and hygrometers guide covers the separate-monitor decision in more detail.
Black Friday, Cyber Monday and gift checks
Keep the model decision above when comparing offers. Match the full US model number, tank capacity, selected color, humidifier count and included sponges; compare the complete order with your water and cleaning supplies. Check availability and delivery at purchase time. For a gift, confirm that the recipient wants manual humidity adjustments and is willing to change water and clean the unit regularly.
How we choose
This is a comparison based on official US manuals, the manufacturer store and EPA maintenance guidance, checked November 2, 2026. We prioritized refill access, cleaning instructions, actual humidity-control behavior, lights and complete kits. We have not physically evaluated either humidifier, so there is no measured mist-output, noise or cleaning-speed ranking.
Verdict
Buy Classic 160 for its smaller body and documented dishwasher options. Buy Dual 150 for more tank capacity and optional scents. Neither adds automatic humidity regulation, and both claim the same maximum runtime on minimum mist. If a humidity target is the reason you are buying, move to the Classic 300S option in our main humidifier guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Levoit Classic 160 or Dual 150 better?
Choose Classic 160 for a smaller body and more cleaning options: its US manual permits specified removable parts in a dishwasher below 158°F. Choose Dual 150 for its 3 L tank and permission to add essential oils to the water. Both claim up to 25 hours on minimum mist. Neither regulates a humidity target automatically, so the larger tank is not an upgrade to automatic control.
Do the Classic 160 and Dual 150 have a humidistat?
Neither US manual documents a humidity setpoint or sensor-controlled auto mode. Both describe a mist-output knob and instruct you to lower the setting or switch off when the room reaches your preferred humidity. Their automatic stop responds to an empty or removed tank. For automatic room-humidity control, the Classic 300S manual documents a humidity sensor and Auto Mode, with a customizable target through VeSync.
Are these Levoit humidifiers filter-free?
Neither is literally without a filter. The Classic 160 includes a pre-installed water-filter sponge; the Dual 150 includes two sponges, one installed. The Classic's manual describes the filter as blocking large particles from the water outlet; both manuals include cleaning or replacement instructions. Both still recommend purified or distilled water. Choose them for their ultrasonic design and refill access, rather than assuming there is no filter maintenance.
Can I put essential oils in the Classic 160 or Dual 150?
The Classic 160 US manual prohibits essential oils in the tank or base chamber. The Dual 150 US manual expressly permits an optional 10–15 drops in its water tank. Those instructions belong to different models; do not transfer the Dual's permission to the Classic. Oils are optional, so you do not need to include them in a basic humidifier order.
Can I put these humidifiers in the dishwasher?
Only the Classic 160's specified removable parts are permitted by the linked US manual: tank, cover, water filter and housing, mist tube and float, with water below 158°F. Its powered base must stay out. The Dual 150 manual prohibits putting any part in a dishwasher and prohibits detergents. Check the manual supplied with your exact unit before using a dishwasher; the two models' cleaning instructions are different.
