About this guide

thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.

Choose the Levoit Classic 300S for most bedrooms if you want cool mist, automatic humidity control and the simpler cleaning layout. Choose the LV600S if you specifically want warm mist or want to set a custom humidity target and timer from the unit's buttons. Both hold 6 L; the decision is about controls, mist temperature and upkeep, rather than a bigger tank.

Quick picks

  • Classic 300S: our default bedroom pick. Cool mist, a 26 W rating and Auto mode targeting 40–50% humidity without app setup. See the Classic 300S at Levoit.
  • LV600S: pick for warm mist and more local controls. Warm/cool mist, a humidity-target button and a timer on the display. Accept the heating-element pad and additional cleaning parts. See the LV600S at Levoit.

Neither cited spec block gives a matching noise-measurement method, so those decibel figures do not establish which sounds quieter beside your bed. Use the bedroom humidifier guide if you also want to compare other designs.

Best for cool mist and simpler upkeep: Classic 300S

The Classic is our default because its automatic behavior is straightforward: Auto adjusts mist output to maintain 40–50% relative humidity, with Automatic Stop enabled by default. Sleep Mode selects Auto and switches off the display and night light. That suits someone who wants humidity control and a dark display without setting up a phone.

The app becomes useful when you want a different humidity target, a timer or schedules. One setting deserves attention: VeSync lets you disable Automatic Stop, in which case the Classic continues on Low after reaching its target. Leave that enabled if you want it to stop misting at the upper target.

There is also a specification trap: Levoit's headline description calls this “4 mist level settings,” but its controls list Low, Medium and High, plus Auto. It is not four manually selected output speeds. The cited page and manual do not publish mL/h values for those speeds, so we do not infer output from tank size and maximum runtime. See the Classic 300S US manual.

Best for warm mist and controls without a phone: LV600S

The LV600S gives you separate mist and heat controls, a humidity-target button and a local timer. Its US manual says the humidity setting stops misting at the selected target and restarts when humidity falls five percentage points below it. It does not automatically raise the selected mist level in that mode. Choose the mist level yourself.

That is more specific than the product page's broad description of Auto Mode automatically making adjustments. The manual describes automatic changes of mist level under Sleep Mode, which targets 50–60% humidity and initially turns warm mist off; you can turn the warmth back on. That differs from Classic 300S Auto's 40–50% range.

EPA says not to humidify above 50%. For the LV600S, choose a humidity target no higher than 50% outside Sleep Mode, then hold the Mist Level button for three seconds to darken the display. Check the room with a hygrometer rather than assuming both models' nighttime modes behave alike. These controls come from the linked US LV600S manual; EPA's limit comes from its humidifier guidance.

Warm mist, output and electricity

Levoit publishes maximum LV600S outputs of 300 mL/h cool and 550 mL/h warm. It does not give low- and medium-setting mL/h figures in the cited US sources, or a complete matrix of mist-level and heat-level combinations. Those maxima therefore cannot predict every setting's refill interval.

Source: Levoit LV600S product specifications and US manual; maximum ratings, not measured room performance

The 60-hour Classic and 50-hour LV600S runtimes are low-mist claims. The LV600S runtime specification does not identify a heat setting, and its troubleshooting section explicitly says warm mist uses water faster. Both manuals also say runtime varies with room temperature and humidity. Do not choose high warm mist expecting the headline refill interval.

The 26 W versus 280 W figures are rated power, not measured continuous consumption. Levoit does not provide an LV600S cool-only wattage in these cited specifications, so the 280 W figure cannot tell you its cool-mode running cost. Choose warmth for the mist option and documented output; the coverage figures describe humidification, not room-heating capacity.

Warmth also changes handling: the LV600S manual allows about 15 minutes to produce warm mist, warns that mist can be hot and requires cooling before cleaning. If those extra steps bring you no benefit, choose the Classic.

Water, white dust and the parts you clean

Warm mist does not buy an exemption from low-mineral water. The LV600S manual recommends purified water and warns that tap water can leave white dust; Classic's manual recommends purified or distilled water. EPA explains that ultrasonic designs disperse tap-water minerals and recommends water labeled distilled. The LV600S remains a hybrid ultrasonic humidifier; do not apply EPA's separate steam-vaporizer description to it just because it has a warm setting.

Both manuals require daily water changes and weekly cleaning, forbid dishwashers and detergents, and describe white-vinegar descaling followed by thorough rinsing and drying. EPA recommends cleaning portable humidifiers every third day. Our buying advice is to budget for that more frequent routine while following Levoit's cleaning method.

  • Classic 300S: clean the tank and cover, base chamber and water filter. Descaling also involves removing the float and noise silencer. Rinse the aroma pad separately if used.
  • LV600S: add the removable mist channel and tube, water-filter sponge, outer water-outlet valve and absorption pad over the heating element to your checklist. Let the unit cool first. Its extra parts are why we favor the Classic when warm mist is unnecessary.

The LV600S box includes three absorption pads, three aroma pads and two water-filter sponges, including the installed pieces. These serve different jobs. The manual says absorption pads reduce scale inside the humidifier, especially on its heating element; it does not describe them as a substitute for low-mineral water.

Levoit sells compatible Descaling Pads, described as absorption pads, and estimates 2–4 weeks depending on water hardness. The manual says to replace absorption or aroma pads if they remain stiff after cleaning. Its water-filter-sponge replacement instructions direct you to Customer Support. The separate aroma pads fit both models; oils belong on that pad, never in the water tank or base.

Plan the water routine before buying
  1. Fill with low-mineral water

Prefer water labeled distilled; a warm setting does not replace the LV600S water instructions.

  2. Empty and dry daily

Unplug first; allow the LV600S to cool after warm mist.

  3. Schedule cleaning

EPA says every third day; use the maker's hand-cleaning and descaling instructions.

  4. Inspect the correct pad

The LV600S heating-element absorption pad and optional aroma pad have different jobs.

If buying and carrying that water sounds impractical, compare evaporative and ultrasonic humidifiers before buying either.

Check the exact model and room fit

The Classic's US manual covers Classic 300S and LUH-A601S-WUSB. The LV600S manual identifies LUH-A602S-WUS; the linked download filename identifies revision 01.02. Match the electrical label as well as the shopping title.

The separate LV600HH is a bottom-fill warm/cool model with a handheld remote. The LV600S here is top fill with VeSync. Do not substitute the HH when you want the S model's refill design and smart controls.

Read the Classic's 215–505 sq ft and LV600S's 430–753 sq ft ranges as manufacturer claims, not guarantees for your layout. The LV600S offers the larger published range; compare the listed dimensions with your available space. Both manuals specify a hard, flat, water-resistant surface at least 12 inches from walls, with mist directed away from furniture and other objects. Check that space before choosing a bedside spot.

For either unit, use our humidity and hygrometer guide to choose a separate room reading. EPA says to lower output or reduce use if surrounding surfaces become damp or condensation appears.

How we choose

This is a comparison of official specifications and instructions, with no physical product testing. We checked Levoit's US pages, their linked manuals, accessory compatibility and EPA guidance on November 2, 2026. We prioritize controls you can actually use, water handling and the parts you must clean. Unpublished output and power figures stay unknown; manufacturer noise and coverage ratings remain claims. Our research method explains the approach.

Verdict

Buy the Classic 300S for cool mist and simpler upkeep. Its default 40–50% Auto mode makes it our easier bedroom recommendation. Buy the LV600S for warm mist or custom humidity and timer controls on the unit. Plan for its absorption pad, extra cleaning parts and the different humidity behavior in Sleep Mode. Either purchase starts with a water and cleaning routine you will keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Levoit LV600S better than the Classic 300S?

Choose the Classic 300S for cool mist and a default Auto mode targeting 40–50% humidity. Choose the LV600S for warm mist, a humidity target adjustable on the unit and a built-in timer. Both have 6 L tanks and VeSync control. The LV600S has a larger manufacturer room rating, but that does not establish its performance in your room or at every setting.

Does the Levoit LV600S produce white dust on warm mist?

Warm mist does not remove the LV600S's water requirements. Levoit identifies it as a hybrid ultrasonic humidifier, recommends purified water and warns that tap water can leave white dust. EPA recommends low-mineral water, particularly water labeled distilled, for ultrasonic humidifiers. Choose the water routine before choosing the mist temperature; the absorption pad is described as reducing scale inside the humidifier.

Can I use either Levoit humidifier without the VeSync app?

Yes. Both manuals describe operation from the unit's buttons. Classic 300S offers manual mist levels and default Auto mode there; customizing its humidity target and setting its timer require VeSync. LV600S adds humidity-target, warm-mist and timer buttons. Both use VeSync for schedules, and their setup troubleshooting specifies a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Can these Levoit humidifiers go in the dishwasher?

No. Both US manuals prohibit putting any part in a dishwasher and say to avoid detergents. They describe hand rinsing, white-vinegar descaling and drying before reassembly. Allow the LV600S to cool after using warm mist. Both manuals call for daily water changes and weekly cleaning; EPA's portable-humidifier guidance calls for cleaning every third day.

Is the LV600HH the same humidifier as the LV600S?

No. Levoit lists the LV600HH separately, with a bottom-fill tank and a handheld remote. The LV600S compared here has a top-fill tank and VeSync smart control, and its linked US manual identifies model LUH-A602S-WUS. Match the full model and electrical rating before ordering; a shared tank capacity or similar model number does not identify the same product.
