Choose the Levoit OasisMist 1000S for a floor-standing cool mist humidifier with a 10 L tank; choose the OasisMist 450S for a tabletop model with a 4.5 L tank and warm/cool mist. Our pick for a bedroom with a suitable tabletop is the 450S if you want that temperature choice; for floor placement and more reservoir capacity, get the 1000S. The larger model number does not add warm mist.

Capacity is not output. The 1000S holds more than twice as much water, but its maximum cool-mist output is only modestly higher. The 450S has the higher published maximum when using warm mist. Rated power also differs substantially; these are ratings, not measured consumption in each mode. Neither the maximum-output figure nor the room-size claim means it will run at maximum output for the advertised low-mist runtime.
Source: Levoit's US manuals linked above; maximum output, not low-setting runtime
A source conflict worth knowing: the 1000S product page includes a stray 215–430 sq ft summary line alongside its 300–600 sq ft specification. Its US manual and Levoit's direct family comparison both give 300–600 sq ft for the 1000S and 215–430 sq ft for the 450S. We use those model-specific figures as maker claims, not guaranteed coverage in your room.
Best for floor placement: Levoit OasisMist 1000S
Buy the 1000S when you want the reservoir on the floor and the option to refill it with a pitcher. Levoit's family comparison explicitly describes floor placement; the US manual specifies a hard, flat, water-resistant surface at least 12 inches from walls, with mist directed away from furniture, bedding and appliances. Plan the clear space before ordering.
For refilling, remove the top cover and pour room-temperature water into the water inlet tank; the manual also permits filling the main tank directly. Leave the inlet tank installed while filling through it, watch the water-level window and stop at the max line. Do not pour into the base chamber or mist tube. This suits someone who prefers bringing water to the humidifier, although emptying and washing the tank still remain part of ownership.
The kit includes a stand, four screws, screwdriver, cable winder, remote, two cleaning brushes and three aroma pads, including the installed pad. The stand needs assembly. Its remote is a practical reason to choose this model even in a room that does not need the larger reservoir.
The limitation is straightforward: it cannot make warm mist. Its up-to-100-hour claim is on low mist and varies with environmental temperature and humidity. That figure is not a maintenance holiday: the manual still calls for daily water changes.

Best for warm-mist choice: Levoit OasisMist 450S
Buy the 450S for warm/cool flexibility and a smaller tank you can lift off the base using its handle. It has dual rotating nozzles. Its manual says not to put it directly on floors, carpets or rugs: use a hard, flat, water-resistant raised surface, again at least 12 inches from walls. Budget tabletop space for that placement, rather than comparing tank capacity alone.
It offers low, medium and high mist, plus low, medium and high heat or heat off. The manual says warm mist can take 15 minutes to warm up; keep exposed skin away from the nozzles and let the unit cool before cleaning.
The nighttime catch: Sleep Mode selects low cool mist and turns off the display, automatically switching warm mist off. If you want warm mist with a dark display, use the independent display-off command: hold the Mist Level button for 3 seconds. Choosing Sleep Mode and choosing a dark display are different operations. This behavior is documented in the 450S US manual.
Its standard box includes three aroma pads, three absorption pads and two water-filter sponges, with one of each pre-installed, plus a cleaning brush. The pads and sponge have different jobs; do not order an aroma-pad pack expecting a replacement water filter.

Humidity targets, app setup and local controls
Both have physical controls, Auto Mode and VeSync schedules. Both US manuals give a 60% default Auto Mode target and allow Automatic Stop to be disabled in VeSync; when disabled, mist continues on low after reaching the target. Check that setting if you expect misting to stop automatically.
On the 1000S, the manual documents target adjustment through the control panel, remote or app, with 40–80% targets in 10% increments. On the 450S, it directs you to VeSync to change the target. That makes the tower our choice if setting a target locally matters.
For app setup, both manuals specify a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. They document VeSync connections to Alexa and Google Assistant; third-party services require a VeSync account rather than a guest account. Local buttons remain useful if you prefer manual operation. Place either unit clear of walls and keep mist away from its aroma-box sensor area, as the manuals direct.
Water, cleaning access and the right replacement parts
Both manuals recommend purified or distilled water and warn that tap water can leave white mineral dust. The EPA explains that distilled water generally contains fewer minerals than tap water. Do not assume a small sponge replaces that water guidance. Both manuals prohibit liquid additives and third-party water filters; essential oils go only on the aroma pad.
Change water daily; clean every 3 days. On the 1000S, cleaning includes the inlet tank, base chamber, main tank, mist tube, muffler and washable filter attached to the silicone tube. On the 450S, the instructions additionally take you through its removable water-filter sponge, mist channel, float, noise silencer and absorption pad. Neither manual permits dishwasher cleaning or immersing the electrical base. Use the model's vinegar-descaling procedure and rinse thoroughly.
Here is the replacement-part distinction, using Levoit's accessory pages and the manuals:
450S water-filter sponge
- What to order or maintain
- Replacement Filters, 10-Pack; the compatibility list names OasisMist 450S and gives approximately monthly life depending on water hardness
450S heating-element absorption pad
- What to order or maintain
- Descaling Pads, 10-Pack; the page explicitly names OasisMist 450S and estimates 2–4 weeks depending on water hardness
450S aroma pad
- What to order or maintain
- Optional fragrance accessory: Aroma Pads, 16-Pack explicitly lists OasisMist 450S
1000S tank filter and aroma pad
- What to order or maintain
- Follow its manual's washing instructions; contact Levoit for the exact replacement match

The 450S manual says to replace aroma or absorption pads if they remain stiff after cleaning. The 1000S manual similarly uses pad condition, rather than a fixed monthly pad schedule.
Do not copy the accessory basket across models. The 1000S page suggests descaling pads, but that accessory's explicit compatibility list omits the 1000S. The aroma-pack page also names 450S without explicitly naming 1000S. Confirm fit from an explicit compatibility list before ordering.

Match the exact model and complete kit before buying
The US manuals identify LUH-M101S-WUS as the 1000S and LUH-O451S-WUS as the 450S; both specify AC 120 V, 60 Hz. Match the rating label, not just “Levoit humidifier” or the number. In particular, Superior Studio Smart 450S is a separately named evaporative humidifier, not the OasisMist 450S warm/cool model.
For a seasonal offer, bundle or open-box listing, use this order:

How we choose
This is a comparison of official specifications and instructions, checked November 3, 2026. We prioritize placement, mist temperature, tank handling, control access and upkeep over model numbers. Our recommendations are editorial judgments from Levoit's product pages, US manuals and accessory compatibility lists, with EPA guidance for water and humidity; they are not performance-test results. Source conflicts are identified above.
Verdict
Get the OasisMist 1000S for floor placement, the larger reservoir and convenient local target controls. Get the OasisMist 450S for its removable smaller tank and warm/cool choice, remembering that Sleep Mode switches heat off. Choose the location and cleaning routine first: the larger tank does not remove the daily water-change requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Levoit OasisMist 1000S have warm mist?
No. The OasisMist 1000S is an ultrasonic cool-mist tower; the OasisMist 450S offers warm and cool mist. Choose the 1000S for its larger 10 L tank and floor placement, or the 450S if warm mist is essential. The larger model number does not mean it includes the smaller model's heating function.
Can the OasisMist 450S use warm mist in Sleep Mode?
No. Its US manual says Sleep Mode uses low cool mist, switches off the display lights and automatically turns off warm mist. For warm mist with a dark display, use the separate display-off control: hold the Mist Level button for 3 seconds. That switches off the display without selecting Sleep Mode.
Do the OasisMist 1000S and 450S need the VeSync app?
Both have local buttons for basic operation. The 1000S also includes a remote and documents target-humidity adjustment through its panel, remote or VeSync. The 450S manual directs you to VeSync to change the Auto Mode target. Both offer app schedules and require a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network during setup.
Can I leave water in the OasisMist 1000S for 100 hours?
The 100-hour figure is a maximum runtime on low mist, not a water-change interval. Both US manuals say to change water daily and clean the specified water-contact compartments every 3 days. Buy the larger tank for reservoir capacity and floor placement, while planning regular emptying and cleaning rather than unattended operation for the full runtime claim.
