About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
For a bedroom evaporative humidifier, we would choose the Vornado EVDC300: its Energy Smart mode adjusts fan speed automatically, and it uses one replaceable wick. Choose the EV200 if you prefer two smaller refill tanks and more stored water: two 0.75-gallon tanks versus the EVDC300’s single one-gallon tank. The official documents do not establish which is quieter at equal output, so our picks rest on controls, refilling and upkeep.
Quick picks and comparison
- Best for automatic operation: EVDC300. Automatic variable-speed control, a dimming display and one wick make it our preferred bedroom option.
- Best for smaller refill loads: EV200. Its individual tanks are smaller, while total tank capacity is greater. Pick it if carrying and filling water is your deciding chore.
Vornado lists 1.5 gallons of tank capacity for the EV200 and one gallon for the EVDC300. Those are storage capacities, distinct from daily output.

Best for automatic operation: Vornado EVDC300
Energy Smart can automatically select up to ten fan speeds and stops the fan once the humidity setting is reached and maintained. That is the main reason to choose it for unattended adjustment within your normal routine. Manual choices are Turbo, High and Low; Energy Smart disables both Turbo and Continuous.
The display dims after 20 seconds without input, and a light sensor adjusts the display and side-light brightness to the room. The pulsating low-water light can be toggled by holding the minus and plus buttons for five seconds; that function does not apply in Continuous mode. This is useful if indicator lights influence where you put a bedroom appliance.
The manual describes a four-hour run-on after low water is detected; the product page also specifies automatic shutoff once the water is used up. Do not interpret the first low-water indication as an immediate stop.
Changed settings are saved when you switch it off normally, but unplugging resets it to Low and a 50% target. Its compromises are the single larger tank and less total tank capacity than the EV200. Choose it for automation and single-wick maintenance, rather than a proven noise advantage.
Best for smaller refill loads: Vornado EV200
The EV200 divides its water between two 0.75-gallon tanks. For someone who dislikes lifting a larger filled tank, that is a useful distinction: you can handle the smaller vessels separately. The refill process still involves lifting each tank out, turning it upside down and unscrewing its cap. It is worth considering your sink clearance before choosing either machine.
High and Low run at the selected speed until the humidity target is reached, then stop; Auto switches among High, Low and Off. Auto cannot run with Continuous selected, and Continuous offers High or Low only. Use a humidity target if you want the fan to stop when that target is reached.
The important bedroom catch is startup: the humidity setting is saved after a normal power-off, but the fan returns to High; unplugging restores High and 50%. Plan to reselect Low when restarting if fan sound matters to you.
The EV200 is also wider than the EVDC300, and a complete wick change uses two wicks rather than one. We would accept those trade-offs for its tank arrangement, not for a guaranteed increase in room coverage.
Output, electricity and noise: compare the conditions
Daily output has conflicting official figures. The EV200 page’s key features say up to 2.4 gallons in 24 hours, while its specification table says 2.6 gallons per day. The EV200 manual specifies 2.6 gallons, ±10%, over 24 hours on continuous High at 70°F and 30% relative humidity.
The EVDC300 page’s key features say 2.3 gallons in 24 hours, but its specification table says three gallons per day. Its manual specifies three gallons, ±10%, over 24 hours on continuous Turbo at 70°F and 30% relative humidity. The manuals therefore describe comparable room conditions but different maximum fan modes. We would not rank real-room performance from the headline figures or silently substitute a preferred number.
Lower listed power is an advantage on paper, with limits. Vornado advertises up to 90% less energy against a comparable AC-motor product; the EVDC300 manual’s comparison footnote names EVAP3. That does not establish a measured saving against EV200. Energy Smart’s ‘as little as one watt’ claim concerns automatic operation, not continuous Turbo output. Do not pair its minimum power claim with its maximum evaporation rating.
Bedroom noise remains an evidence gap. Both manuals recommend Low for quiet nighttime use; neither supplies a matched-output numerical sound comparison. Our practical suggestion is to begin with Low if steady fan behavior matters, then decide whether automatic speed changes suit you. A humidity target can still stop the fan on Low; Continuous trades that target-based stopping for continuous operation.
Buy the correct wick and plan the cleaning
Both models use the same one-inch-thick MD1-0034 wick, sold in a two-pack. The humidifiers come equipped with wicks: two for EV200 and one for EVDC300. An extra pack is a replacement purchase, rather than something required to assemble a complete new unit.

Check the MD1-0034 two-pack on Vornado. EVDC500 also uses this part but needs two wicks; do not copy its replacement quantity for EVDC300.
Vornado sells the wicks as disposable, with no cleaning required, and says to replace a wick that has hardened and no longer absorbs effectively. Hard water can shorten wick life, and chemically softened water can also harden it. Use the interval as a planning estimate, then check the wick’s condition.
For either machine, grille cleaning requires a Phillips screwdriver; the manuals describe wiping the grille and blade or using compressed air. Follow the matching manual for disassembly. Unplug before refilling or maintenance, and keep the powered top out of water. Do not add fragrances or water conditioners: both models’ care instructions prohibit additives.
Buying guide: US versions, room fit and the first order
These are separate models in Vornado’s evaporative range, not interchangeable names for one machine. Match EV200 to HU1-0052-43 and EVDC300 to HU1-0049-43. The referenced US units are rated 120 V, 60 Hz, and the manuals specify US use. Check that the offer is a complete humidifier with its tank or tanks, caps and correct installed wicks; the compatible wick pack is an accessory, not a different humidifier version.
Vornado claims coverage up to 580 sq ft for EV200 and 560 sq ft for EVDC300. If your intended space exceeds those claims, start with our humidifiers for large rooms guide. Do not choose between these two based on that small coverage difference alone.
At seasonal startup, Vornado says the unit may run constantly while the room and furnishings absorb moisture. Keep the air inlets and outlet unobstructed. If condensation or frost appears on windows, the manuals advise adjusting output downward; they say to turn the unit off above 60% relative humidity. Use a separate hygrometer for an accurate reading—our humidity and hygrometer guide covers that buying decision.
Both machines evaporate water from a wick into invisible vapor; a visible mist plume is not the operating check. If you are still choosing the method, read evaporative vs ultrasonic humidifiers.
Match the model
Check the model label and US electrical rating against the maker’s page.
Check completeness
Confirm the removable tanks, caps and installed wicks, especially for an open-box offer.
Match the refill pack
Use the maintenance table to separate pack quantity from the number fitted at once.
Plan placement
Leave the air path clear and room to lift the tank out for refilling.
How we choose
This is a manufacturer-document comparison; we have not operated these units. We checked Vornado’s product pages, specification tables, matching owner’s guides and wick FAQ. Our recommendations prioritize repeat chores and control behavior. The conflicting output claims remain visible, and the sources do not justify a quieter winner at matching output. Read our full How we choose method.
Verdict
Choose EVDC300 for automatic variable-speed control, a dimming display and a single wick to replace. Choose EV200 for two smaller tanks and greater combined tank capacity. For either, order MD1-0034 when replacement time comes; EV200 uses both wicks in the two-pack, while EVDC300 uses one. Buy for the workflow you prefer, without treating a DC motor label as a noise measurement.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Vornado EVDC300 quieter than the EV200?
The reviewed Vornado documents do not establish a quieter winner at equal moisture output. Both manuals describe Low as suitable for quiet nighttime use, while their automatic modes change fan speed and stop at the humidity target. Choose the EVDC300 for its controls and single-wick upkeep; its DC motor alone is not evidence of lower bedroom noise.
Which replacement wick fits the EV200 and EVDC300?
Both use Vornado MD1-0034, sold as a two-pack of one-inch-thick wicks. The EV200 needs two wicks for a complete replacement; the EVDC300 needs one. One pack therefore supplies a full EV200 change or an EVDC300 change with a spare. Vornado gives an approximate life of 4–8 weeks, depending on use, water hardness and environmental conditions.
Are the EV200 and EVDC300 top-fill humidifiers?
Neither uses a pour-through top-fill workflow. Both manuals tell you to unplug, lift the removable tank vertically, turn it upside down, remove the cap and fill with cool tap water. Refit the cap with its gasket correctly seated before reinstalling the tank. Compare a smaller individual EV200 tank with the single larger EVDC300 tank when choosing for your sink.
Will either humidifier run all night on one fill?
There is no universal runtime to promise from these documents. The EV200 stores 1.5 gallons across its tanks and the EVDC300 stores one gallon, but fan mode and room conditions affect operation. Vornado says continuous use can require daily refilling. Its daily output ratings describe water evaporated under specified continuous-operation conditions, rather than a guaranteed duration for a full tank.
