Choose the Levoit Superior Studio Smart 450S for an enclosed bedroom or home office: its 4.5 L top-fill tank and single machine-washable wick make it our more manageable everyday pick. Choose the Superior 6000S for a larger connected living area when you need its 1,500 mL/h published maximum output and 22.7 L tank, and can maintain its larger filter set. Buy by water demand and upkeep, then verify the result with humidity readings.

Neither cited specification supplies a shared temperature-and-humidity test condition for maximum output. Read the output figures as documented ceilings, rather than a prediction of how fast either will reach your target. Both sources use the label “Max Mist Output,” although these are evaporative units with invisible output.
Tank capacity is directly useful for planning how much water you must handle; it does not measure humidifying speed:
Source: Levoit Studio Smart specifications and Superior 6000S US manual, linked above
Best for an enclosed room: Levoit Superior Studio Smart 450S
Start here if you want an evaporative humidifier for a bedroom without committing to the 6000S's reservoir and filter set. The Studio lets you refill from the top without disassembling it, according to Levoit's introduction. Its wick is washing-machine-safe; that is the key convenience behind our recommendation.
The trade-off is the smaller tank and lower maximum output in the table. If you are buying for adjoining rooms, do not assume the advertised coverage establishes performance through doorways. Check the humidity where you actually use the space before deciding the unit is large enough.
Check the variant: this recommendation covers Studio Smart 450S, White. Levoit also sells a plain Studio 450; its comparison says both have core evaporative performance and on-device controls, while Smart adds remote app control, humidity monitoring, schedules and cleaning reminders. The Studio replacement filter explicitly fits both 450 and 450S.
See the Studio Smart at Levoit.
Best for a larger connected space: Levoit Superior 6000S
Choose the 6000S when its much greater maximum output is worth the bigger water-handling job. Its manual describes rolling or carefully lifting the unit to a sink, removing the top, and filling through the supplied hose and funnel; you can also expose the tank and fill directly. Do not pour water through the assembled top. Plan a clear route to the sink before buying.
The trade-off is upkeep: its four wicks are washable, with a stated life of 3–6 months depending on weather and water quality. A separate water-filter sponge needs monthly replacement. The manual directs buyers to Levoit support for additional sponges; include those in your replacement-parts check, rather than budgeting for wicks alone.
Check the exact version: the linked US manual identifies LEH-S601S-WUS. Match the delivered model to its instructions; a storefront year or bundle label alone does not establish a hardware revision. Verify that the kit includes four wicks, a filling hose and the sponge supplies: the manual lists two sponges, one pre-installed. Studio 450/450S filter compatibility does not establish a fit for the 6000S.
For other large-space options, see humidifiers for large rooms.

Refill worksheet: separate storage from output
The advertised 40-hour Studio and 72-hour 6000S runtimes are both on low fan speed. Regard maximum output as a separate specification; neither source promises the longest runtime while delivering maximum output.
Use this worksheet before treating either tank as a weekend without attention:

Our suggested method is to run at the intended setting, record how much water you add to restore the same level, and note the room's humidity. Divide water used by elapsed time for average consumption; use the same units when dividing tank capacity by consumption to estimate a refill interval. Keep the cleaning schedule separate from that estimate.
Hard water: choose the maintenance job
Both accept tap water: the Studio page says so explicitly, and the 6000S manual tells users to add tap water. EPA explains that evaporative humidifiers are not expected to disperse substantial minerals. Studio's page says minerals stay in the wick; this shifts attention to washing and deposits rather than removing the maintenance job.
For hard water, we prefer Studio's washable-wick routine for an enclosed room, provided you will do the washing. Choose the 6000S for output, with a plan to inspect its wicks and descale its tank. Neither is a maintenance-free answer.

The dishwasher permission above covers only the named Studio parts; it does not extend to the whole machine or the 6000S. EPA's general advice for portable humidifiers also calls for daily emptying, drying and refilling, while its console-unit advice defers to the maker's water-changing instructions. A long advertised runtime is not a water-care schedule.
Humidistat, app and display: what you can confirm
Studio Smart: the product page confirms VeSync target-humidity settings, temperature/humidity monitoring, schedules and cleaning reminders. It does not specify the selectable humidity range or a display-off sequence. Confirm those details in the supplied instructions if either is essential; do not borrow the 6000S's settings.
6000S: the manual documents low, medium and high fan speeds, plus a 30–60% target in 5% increments, selectable on the unit or in VeSync. Auto Mode uses the humidity sensor to adjust fan speed. Sleep Mode selects low speed and switches off the main display; a separate Display Off control is also documented. These are confirmed options for buyers who prefer on-device controls.
The 6000S app also has temperature-based Auto Home and Auto Away profiles with fixed targets. Check which mode is active instead of assuming every automatic profile follows your chosen target. EPA advises keeping indoor RH at or below 50% and reducing the setting or use if condensation appears on windows or walls; a control's maximum is not a recommended target.
Noise: no defensible winner from these numbers
Studio's 19–45 dB range specifies 1.5 m distance. The 6000S manual lists 28–45 dB without that distance or an equivalent test protocol. We cannot rank them fairly from those minima, or claim equal noise at equal output. For a bedroom purchase, check low-speed operation and display behavior during the return window; decide whether that setting also meets your humidity target.
Winter buying checklist
Our suggested order keeps the purchase tied to the room and the work you will do:
Define the space
Write down floor area, ceiling height and normally open doorways; choose an enclosed-room or connected-space brief.
Plan the water route
Decide where you will refill, clean and dry parts; check that the larger unit can reach the sink.
Confirm model and supplies
Match the Smart name or manual model, then check the complete wick set and sponge supply before ordering.
Check the result
Use an independent hygrometer in the occupied area and adjust operation if condensation appears.
For measurement choices, use our indoor humidity and hygrometer guide. Buy replacement filters by the documented model compatibility, rather than by appearance or the shared Superior name.
How we choose
This is a document-based comparison, not physical product testing. We checked Levoit's official product information, model comparison, replacement-filter compatibility and the 6000S US manual, with EPA guidance for humidity and water care. We separate capacity, maximum output and low-speed runtime, preserve the Studio cleaning conflict, and make no matched-condition noise claim. Our full selection method explains this research approach.
Verdict
Get the Studio Smart 450S for an enclosed room and its simpler wick-washing commitment. Get the Superior 6000S when larger-space water demand justifies its reservoir, four wicks and monthly sponge. Make the final decision from the refill route, care routine and humidity where you use the room.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the better evaporative humidifier for a bedroom?
Between these two, start with the Studio Smart 450S for an enclosed bedroom. Its 4.5 L top-fill tank and single machine-washable wick make a smaller maintenance commitment. Choose the 6000S when you need its greater documented maximum output and accept four wicks plus a separate monthly sponge replacement. The Studio's lower published noise minimum does not establish a fair noise comparison because the measurement conditions are unmatched.
Are these Levoit humidifiers suitable for hard tap water?
Levoit explicitly accepts tap water for the Studio, and the 6000S manual also directs users to add tap water. Evaporative designs are not expected to disperse substantial minerals, according to EPA. That does not remove the maintenance job: Studio's wick captures minerals, and the 6000S requires wick cleaning and tank descaling. Choose the cleaning routine you will maintain rather than expecting hard water to disappear.
Are Superior Studio and Superior Studio Smart the same?
They share core evaporative performance, according to Levoit's comparison, but their controls differ. Studio Smart adds remote app control, humidity monitoring, scheduling and cleaning reminders; both have on-device controls. The official replacement wick fits Studio 450 and Studio Smart 450S. This guide's smaller-unit recommendation is the Smart 450S, so check that full name rather than buying by the word Studio alone.
Does the 6000S really run for 72 hours at maximum output?
The manual specifies 72 hours on low fan speed and separately lists maximum output of 1,500 mL/h. It does not promise that duration at maximum output. Runtime also depends on temperature and humidity. Use the tank capacity and your observed water consumption to plan refills; a maximum runtime is neither a full-output promise nor a cleaning interval.
