About this guide

thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.

For most US buyers choosing between these Lumie sunrise alarm clocks, buy or keep the Bodyclock Shine 300: it already offers a 15–90-minute sunrise and sunset, FM radio and daily or weekly alarms. Choose the Luxe 700FM if you will use Bluetooth playback, rotary controls or its selectable low-blue light; those are the reasons we would upgrade. Both US manuals put setup and everyday operation on the clock, without an app or subscription step.

Quick picks: keep the Shine or buy the Luxe?

  • Best for the light-and-radio routine: Bodyclock Shine 300, US. Our default choice when the shared light and alarm functions cover your needs.
  • Best for your own audio and dial controls: Bodyclock Luxe 700FM, US. The upgrade for someone who wants their bedside light to double as a Bluetooth speaker.

If you already own a Shine, keep it unless you can name an added Luxe feature you want to use regularly. If neither fits your routine, start with our broader sunrise alarm clock guide.

The light-duration range, FM preset count and weekly scheduling are shared features. Neither US product page gives a maximum lux figure, so these specifications do not establish which lamp is brighter. Sources: Shine US specifications, Luxe US specifications and their US manuals linked below.

Best for the light-and-radio routine: Bodyclock Shine 300

The Shine is our default pick because its existing functions cover the core buying job. You can adjust the sunrise's final intensity, dim the bedside lamp and choose whether the sunset ends in darkness or a nightlight. Its LEDs are warm white, orange and red.

Its 15 sounds include white noise, waves and a beep. FM is already included, with up to five saved stations; selecting one uses the preset menu. The documented audio choices are FM, internal sounds or silence, so buy the Luxe if playing your own audio through the clock matters.

For a dark bedside table, set the switch underneath the Shine to OFF for the display; tapping the dome briefly reveals the time. This is separate from the lamp's nightlight setting. Choose the nightlight's OFF setting too if you want the sunset to end with no lamp light.

The Shine's 21 × 12 cm width and depth make it the smaller footprint here. Check that space before ordering, especially if the bedside table already holds a charger or books.

Best for your own audio and dial controls: Bodyclock Luxe 700FM

The Luxe combines Bluetooth playback with a volume dial and a dial that adjusts light or selects tracks. Its five radio presets have dedicated buttons. We would choose it for someone who frequently changes stations or wants audio from another device, rather than for someone who only starts a light routine at bedtime.

It also lets you switch the bedside light between normal white and a warmer, more yellow low-blue setting. The sunrise menu offers that low-blue choice too. That is a genuine light-control difference; it does not establish a health benefit or a brighter sunrise.

Read the sound count carefully: Lumie's US specification says 25+ sounds, while the same page's audio preview is labeled 27 sleep/wake sounds. We retain both descriptions instead of promising a fixed library of exactly 27 tracks. Use the maker's audio previews to decide whether the selections interest you; count alone is a weak reason to replace a working Shine.

One US gift consideration: the Luxe's US manual specifies a 24-hour clock format. Confirm that suits the recipient before making the dial controls the deciding feature.

  • Yes: Bluetooth playback from another device
  • Yes: Rotary light and volume controls
  • Yes: Selectable low-blue bedside light and sunrise
  • No: A longer sunrise-duration range than the Shine
  • No: Bluetooth in the documented alarm-source menu

Buying guide: the differences that matter at bedtime

US 700FM versus imported 750DAB

Order the US Luxe 700FM, SKU NBCLA-F700, or the US Shine 300, SKU NBCSA-1000. These identifiers come from Lumie's product data. Its European Shine record instead uses NBCSE-1000, despite sharing the Shine name.

The European Luxe 750DAB, including SKU NBCLE-D750, is a different model advertised with DAB/DAB+ radio. The current US 700FM specifies FM radio and Bluetooth input. USB playback and AUX input are not documented for this US kit; do not transfer a different Luxe model's connection list to it.

Light duration, dimming and sunset audio

Both clocks let you set a sunrise and sunset between 15 and 90 minutes. Both manuals warn that a sunset started with the lamp already dimmed can finish sooner than the selected duration. For a full-length fade, start at full brightness; if that is too bright, choose the starting level you prefer and accept the shorter fade.

Both also let sunset audio stop, continue or fade away. There is no need to upgrade just to leave a built-in sound playing after the light goes out. The Luxe adds its selectable low-blue light; the Shine already provides dimming and a nightlight.

FM, Bluetooth and the alarm-source trap

Both provide five FM presets. On the Luxe, pairing happens through the Bluetooth settings of your phone, tablet or other source device. The manual says changing to another audio option disconnects that pairing.

Bluetooth playback is not a documented scheduled alarm source. The Luxe's alarm menu offers OFF, RADIO or SOUND. Pick a built-in sound or a radio preset for the alarm; do not base the purchase on waking to a phone playlist. For a dedicated sound device instead, see our white noise machine guide.

Daily, weekly and snooze controls

On both clocks, DAILY requires manually activating the alarm before bed. WEEKLY automatically enables the scheduled alarms and lets you choose a time or no alarm for each day. Set WEEKLY if you want a repeating workweek routine; this is not an extra Luxe feature. The manuals describe a time per day, rather than separate simultaneous alarms for two people.

Both have a 9-minute snooze. Tap the dome on the Shine; its manual says pressing any button deactivates the alarm. The Luxe also snoozes when you press a radio preset button, while its alarm button or either dial deactivates the alarm. Learn that difference before the first morning.

Power, memory and the complete US order

Both US manuals specify a supplied mains adapter. The Shine's output is 15 V DC, 1 A; the Luxe's is 24 V DC, 1 A. Use the adapter supplied for the chosen model; Lumie instructs users to use only the supplied adapter or an approved replacement. Do not swap them when moving from Shine to Luxe.

For the normal light, built-in-sound and FM routine, order the US clock with its matching supplied adapter. Bluetooth on the Luxe requires your own source device. Keep the adapter and packaging with the clock if it is a gift; avoid ordering a spare adapter as though it were the complete clock.

Both manuals promise 30 minutes of timekeeping without power, with other settings permanently saved. That describes clock retention, not battery-powered light or sound. Check the time after a longer interruption before relying on the next alarm.

Gift setup and returns

Prepare the clock before the first morning
  1. Match the US kit

Check the model, regional SKU and matching supplied adapter.

  2. Set the clock and schedule

Enter language, day and time, then choose DAILY or WEEKLY and the alarm time.

  3. Choose light and audio separately

Set sunrise duration and final intensity, then select radio, a built-in sound or silence.

  4. Check the bedtime settings

Choose display low/off and sunset nightlight behavior; practice snoozing and stopping the alarm.

Lumie's 45-day trial applies to direct purchases and starts when the light is received. Keep the outer box, gift box and internal packing; delivery charges are non-refundable. US customers are told to email Lumie for return instructions, and a prepaid label is conditional. Do not assume a gift gets a new trial period when it is opened, or that another seller follows Lumie's direct-store terms.

Both US product pages advertise a 3-year limited warranty. Check the US trial terms, returns policy and warranty exclusions before choosing a seller.

How we choose

This comparison is based on Lumie's US product specifications, regional product data, US manuals and direct-store terms, checked November 3, 2026. We compare documented controls and compatibility; we have not physically evaluated brightness, sound quality or morning performance. Our recommendations favor features you will use, with manufacturer wording differences called out where they affect the purchase. Read our research method.

Verdict

Buy or keep the US Shine 300 for the core light-and-FM routine. Buy the US Luxe 700FM if Bluetooth playback, rotary controls or selectable low-blue light justify replacing that setup. The shared light-duration range and weekly alarms give us no reason to upgrade on those features alone.

Sources and US manuals

Frequently asked questions

Is the Lumie Luxe 700FM worth upgrading from the Shine 300?

Choose the Luxe for Bluetooth playback, rotary controls or its selectable low-blue light. Keep the Shine if you mainly use light and FM radio: both offer 15–90-minute sunrise and sunset settings, daily or weekly alarms and five FM presets. The upgrade recommendation rests on those controls and audio features; it does not establish a brighter or more effective sunrise.

Do these Lumie sunrise alarm clocks work without an app or subscription?

Both US manuals describe complete setup and use through physical controls, without an app, account or subscription step for the light, built-in sounds, FM radio or alarms. The Luxe's optional Bluetooth playback pairs through your other device's Bluetooth settings. You can leave that feature unused and operate the clock by itself, making either model a suitable shortlist choice for an app-free bedside routine.

Can the Luxe 700FM wake me with a Bluetooth playlist?

The documented alarm sources are radio, built-in sound or no audio; Bluetooth is a separate playback option. Do not choose the Luxe on the assumption that a phone playlist becomes its scheduled alarm. Its US manual also says switching to another audio source disconnects Bluetooth pairing, so check the connection when you return to streaming.

Does the Luxe 700FM have DAB radio, USB playback or AUX input?

The current US product page specifies FM radio and Bluetooth input. Lumie's separate European Luxe 750DAB advertises DAB/DAB+ radio. USB playback and AUX input are not documented in the current US 700FM input specification or audio instructions; do not borrow another Luxe model's port list. Match the complete model name and US package before ordering.

Will the Shine 300 or Luxe 700FM keep working during a power outage?

Both US manuals say the clock keeps time for 30 minutes without power and other settings are permanently saved. That is a clock-retention specification, not a promise of battery-powered light or sound. Plan on mains power for the routine, and check the time after a longer interruption before relying on the next alarm.
