About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
Choose the Midea Cube MAD50PE1QWT-B if the larger collection bucket is your priority; choose the Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1 if you prefer pulling out a conventional bucket to lifting the dehumidifier off its container. Both are maker-rated 50-pint-per-day pump models, but neither earns a quietest award from the available official evidence. For a bedroom or desk nearby, decide whether the appliance belongs in that location before choosing between these two. Midea · Frigidaire specifications
Quick picks
- Large bucket: Midea. Its maximum fill level is 4.23 gallons, versus Frigidaire's listed 1.9-gallon bucket. Choose it if the lifting sequence suits you.
- Conventional emptying: Frigidaire. Pull the bucket halfway out, raise its handle and lift it vertically; the dehumidifier body stays in place.
- Downhill drain available: consider gravity first. Both manuals provide continuous gravity drainage. A pump is useful when the route must rise.
- Sound is decisive: no supported winner. Frigidaire publishes numbers; the reviewed US Cube documents do not. Cube manual · Frigidaire manual

Maker figures: Midea page, Cube manual, Frigidaire sheet and manual. Directory figures: Midea EPA record and Frigidaire EPA record. Sound measurement distance is unspecified in Frigidaire's sheet.
The daily rating and the bucket size describe different things. EPA defines capacity as water removed over 24 hours at test conditions. Current portable ratings use 65°F, versus the older 80°F procedure. The directory figures put these models in essentially the same removal class; their equal IEF figures give no rated-efficiency reason to choose one. Actual collection in your room is not guaranteed by that rating. Rating explanation
Source: Cube manual and Frigidaire specification sheet, linked above; collection volume, not daily removal
Choose Midea for the larger bucket: MAD50PE1QWT-B
The Cube suits someone who values collection volume and accepts its handling routine. For manual emptying, Midea instructs you to lift the dehumidifier off, put it on a level surface, carry the bucket with two hands, and pour from a front corner. Residual water can drip from the unit. That extra lift matters more than the attractive bucket number if emptying is physically awkward. Exact manual
Do not assume this revision offers the older Cube family's smaller fill volumes. Its exact-model table lists 4.23 gallons at level 4, with slashes for the lower levels. We would not promise a lighter automatic fill setting from that table. Nor would we calculate an emptying interval from the daily removal rating: your room's collection rate remains unknown.
For pump use, the inlet belongs inside the bucket. Pumping begins at the highest fill level and deliberately leaves water behind to keep the inlet submerged. Empty the bucket at least weekly, even with the pump enabled. Clean the bucket every few weeks; the manual also explains rinsing or brushing the pump filter. Its safety instructions call for cleaning the air filter every two weeks. Setup and care
Midea advertises SmartHome app and voice-assistant control, while its manual provides local humidity, fan and timer buttons. Choose it for the bucket and drainage options rather than a claim about quieter smart operation. Model details at Midea
Choose Frigidaire for conventional access: FHDP5033Y1
The Frigidaire is our preference when you want to remove the container while leaving the appliance body in place. Its 1.9-gallon bucket sacrifices collection volume for that conventional access sequence. When the bucket is full, the unit shuts down; the manual tells you to pull the bucket halfway out, lift the handle and raise it slowly to avoid splashing. Emptying instructions
Its pump also waits for the full-bucket point. A filling bucket before the first pumping cycle therefore does not, by itself, indicate a fault. Check that Pump is enabled and the hose is connected before treating it as a drainage failure.
Budget access for maintenance, too. Frigidaire specifies bucket, pump-filter and air-filter cleaning every two weeks under normal conditions. Reaching the pump filter involves removing the bucket cover and a screw securing the pump drainage structure. A built-in pump reduces carrying water; it does not remove this job. The specification sheet confirms Wi-Fi and two fan speeds. Its published sound figures are useful disclosure, but do not establish suitability beside a bed. Frigidaire model specifications
Drainage buying guide: map the hose before ordering
Gravity requires a downhill route. Midea's bucketless instructions require the hose to slope down without rising above the drain port. Frigidaire requires no kinks or elevations in its gravity hose. A nearby sink above the outlet is therefore a pump decision, not simply a continuous-drain connection. Midea · Frigidaire
The pump limits have different wording. Midea permits 14 feet above the drain port; Frigidaire specifies a maximum distance and rise of 5 m (16.4 feet) from the unit. We would not regard the latter as permission to add a long horizontal run to that full rise. Measure the complete proposed route and follow the matching manual; a larger printed number alone does not settle it.
Both pump setups use their collection buckets and require continuing access for care. Decide those points before positioning either appliance:
Downhill throughout
Use gravity drainage only with the required fall and no hose rises or kinks.
Route must rise
Use the pump connection and keep the collection bucket fitted; follow that model's routing limit.
Leave service access
Keep the bucket and filters reachable for the cleaning routine described above.
Which is the quiet dehumidifier?
We cannot rank their sound from these documents. Frigidaire's 49 dBA low / 51.5 dBA high figures are manufacturer specifications with no stated measurement distance. No dB figure appears in the reviewed US MAD50PE1QWT-B page or matching manual. That gap must stay visible rather than borrowing a number from another Cube suffix or region. Frigidaire sheet · Midea page · Cube manual
There are also sounds beyond steady airflow. Frigidaire describes dripping, rushing air, refrigerant gurgling/hissing and compressor chatter as normal. Midea warns that its pump may make a loud noise for the first 3–5 minutes of operation. Neither a fan-speed figure nor a pump specification establishes how noticeable a complete operating cycle will be to you. Frigidaire sounds · Cube pump note
For sound-sensitive placement, our recommendation is to reconsider the location before buying either. Keep the required airflow clearance and a level floor; do not hide the appliance in a cramped cupboard to muffle it. Frigidaire specifically warns against a small enclosed closet and says an adjacent enclosed area needs adequate air circulation to benefit. Moving it elsewhere requires checking that the intended damp space can still exchange air with it. Placement instructions
Temperature, humidity and a smaller alternative
The Cube's operating range is 41°F–95°F, and the Frigidaire's is 41°F–89°F. These are operating limits, not promises of rated output near the bottom of the range. EPA warns that frost below 65°F can reduce performance. The Cube explicitly documents automatic defrost; Frigidaire's troubleshooting says coil frost will usually disappear within 60 minutes. Do not assume either is suitable below its minimum. Cube · Frigidaire · Cold-room guidance
For ideal indoor humidity, EPA gives a general building range of 30%–50% RH, or 30%–40% during the heating season in colder climates to limit window condensation. Frigidaire permits 35%–85% in manual Dry mode, while Auto targets 45%–55% according to temperature. Use Dry mode if you want a specific setpoint. The Cube's Set mode cycles around your selected humidity; Max runs continuously on high fan. Humidity guidance · Frigidaire controls · Cube controls
Measure first with our indoor humidity and hygrometer guide. Capacity depends on moisture load and floor area, according to EPA, so these two pump models need not be your starting point for every room.
The Frigidaire FHDD3534Y1 is a lower-capacity reference if 35 pints/day suits the load and you have bucket or downhill drainage: its sheet lists no pump, a 1.7-gallon bucket, and 48 dBA low, 50 dBA medium and 51 dBA high. That is a capacity-and-drainage alternative, with no guarantee of bedroom quietness. 35-pint specifications
For other capacity choices, use our dehumidifier buying guide. For the full suffix map, use Midea Cube variants: “Cube 50” alone is insufficient identification. Midea's non-pump page names MAD50S1QWT-A in its heading but MAD50PS1QWT-A in its model field, alongside Built-in Pump: No. Confirm the complete label instead of transferring this pump model's instructions. How we choose
This is document research, with no physical evaluation or sound measurements. We checked exact-model manufacturer pages, manuals and specification sheets, plus EPA's capacity records and buying guidance. The decision favors the drainage and handling routine you can actually maintain; unknown sound data stays unknown. Specifications and source access were checked November 2, 2026; Frigidaire's specifications and manual were accessible, while its shopping page timed out, so no stock claim is made. Our selection method explains the wider process.
Verdict
Get the Cube for collection volume, provided lifting the body off its bucket suits you. Get the Frigidaire for conventional bucket access, provided you accept its smaller container and pump-filter service. Choose gravity drainage when the route allows it, and choose another location or reconsider capacity when nearby sound dominates the decision. There is no evidence-based acoustic winner in this pair.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Midea Cube 50 quieter than the Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1?
The official evidence does not establish that. Frigidaire publishes 49 dBA on low and 51.5 dBA on high, without a measurement distance in its specification sheet. No dB value was found in the cited US MAD50PE1QWT-B page or exact-model manual. Midea also warns that its pump can be loud initially. Choose by drainage and handling, and reconsider the location if sound beside a bed or desk is the deciding factor.
Can the Midea Cube pump work without its bucket?
No. The MAD50PE1QWT-B manual disables the pump in bucketless mode. Bucketless operation uses a continuous drain hose that slopes down and never rises above the drain port. For pumping, the inlet must sit in the bucket; the pump waits for the highest fill level and leaves some water behind to keep the inlet submerged. Bucketless operation also has an exception to automatic restart after a power cut.
Does a built-in pump eliminate bucket cleaning?
No. Midea still requires emptying the bucket at least weekly during pump use and cleaning it every few weeks. Frigidaire calls for cleaning its bucket, pump filter and air filter every two weeks under normal operating conditions. Its pump-filter instructions include removing the bucket cover and a retaining screw. Both pumps wait for the bucket to fill before starting, so water collection before the first pump cycle is expected.
What humidity should I set either dehumidifier to?
EPA gives a general building target of 30% to 50% relative humidity, with 30% to 40% during the heating season in colder climates to limit window condensation. The FHDP5033Y1 permits manual settings from 35% to 85%; its Auto mode instead targets 45% to 55%. Use a room hygrometer and choose a manual setting within the applicable target rather than assuming every automatic mode follows the same range.
