About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
For most buyers choosing a Smart Air purifier, we'd buy the five-speed SA600 for its higher published CADR and included particle/carbon filter kit. Choose the SQAIR Standard for a lower body, a rotary dial and one installed particle filter, with carbon optional. Smart Air is the brand here: these picks center on physical controls; if you want phone control, start with our air purifier guide.

Best for most buyers: Smart Air SA600
The SA600 is our default for its higher published airflow and five speed choices. Its standard kit contains two HEPA filters, two carbon filters, two pre-filters and the manual, so you don't need to add the initial carbon set separately. Put spare filters in the cart only if you want the first replacement ready.
It is taller than the SQAIR but shallower front to back, so the SQAIR isn't automatically the better compact air purifier for your floor plan. Allow at least 30 cm / 1 ft between the SA600's front and rear inlets and walls or furniture, as its manual specifies. Measure that operating space before choosing a tight corner.
Buy this kit: SA600, five-speed, with US-compatible power and the complete included filter set; for the first particle-filter change, add one SA600 H13 HEPA two-pack. Add the separate carbon two-pack only if you want a spare carbon set too.
SA600 Carbon+ is a separate version: its maker page describes upgraded carbon and lists a different CADR of 480 m³/h. That page also mixes 58 m² and 60 m² room claims. The recommendation here is the standard SA600; confirm Carbon+-specific replacement media if choosing that version.
Best for a simple dial: Smart Air SQAIR Standard
The SQAIR suits someone who wants a rotary dial with three speeds and no screen to navigate. The Standard kit lists one particle filter, a power cable and the manual; the maker offers the Chemical Warfare version with added activated carbon. Current replacement media are called E12 EPA; the linked purifier manual instead says H12, so check the exact compatible part rather than relying on the word HEPA alone.
There is no pre-filter to wash on the SQAIR. The SA600 does have washable pre-filters, so these models have different upkeep routines as well as different panel counts.
Buy this kit: SQAIR Standard in the US electrical version, plus the matching SQAIR E12 replacement filter if you want a spare. For carbon, choose Chemical Warfare or add the matching SQAIR carbon panel; confirm the regional bundle contents because the product page's Chemical Warfare contents line does not explicitly list carbon even though its description does.
How we choose
This is a document-based comparison using Smart Air's product pages, linked manuals and replacement-filter pages, with EPA guidance for sizing. We compare airflow, controls, operating space and complete replacement sets. We have not physically tested either purifier. Conflicting specifications stay visible below; we do not turn them into a sound ranking or a fixed annual cost. Read our research method.
Buying guide
Room fit: compare the setting you'll actually use
The headline CADRs above are manufacturer figures, not confirmed AHAM smoke-CADR values. EPA explains that CADR is normally measured at the highest fan speed and that lower speeds filter less air. For a fair comparison, ask for the same particle test, installed media, fan setting and room-height assumption on both models.
The SQAIR manual makes the night-time tradeoff concrete: low is 65 m³/h at 23 dBA, versus 300 m³/h at 52 dBA on high. Its low-speed room estimate is only 43–75 ft², not the global page's 387 ft² headline. The manual also warns that adding carbon changes performance; do not assume the Standard CADR applies unchanged to Chemical Warfare.
Measure length × width and count the connected area in an open layout; EPA's sizing guidance also calls for a larger-size unit with high ceilings. If you need the maximum room claim while keeping the fan low, neither headline alone establishes that fit. For a broader shortlist, see quiet air purifiers for bedrooms.
Noise, lights and controls
SQAIR's published range is 23–52 dBA. SA600's current page and V2.0 manual give 16–51 dBA, while the earlier V1.1 manual gives 24–53 dB(A). Those are conflicting maker specifications, not evidence of a measured quietness advantage at equal CADR.
For SA600 lights, the product FAQ says they dim after 30 seconds; its linked manual says all control lights turn off after three minutes. The FAQ says the first press wakes the panel and the second changes a setting; the manual specifies holding Child Lock for three seconds. Check the instructions supplied with your revision if light timing matters.
For remote SQAIR power, Smart Air documents an external Wi-Fi plug, but it cannot change fan speed. Do not buy either pick expecting app scheduling or an app-controlled fan-speed menu from the brand name alone.
US versions: verify the rating before ordering
Smart Air identifies Smarter HEPA as its US distributor and says US shipments have compatible plugs and voltage. Use the United States selector on the linked maker pages, then match the shipped kit and rating. We have not confirmed a unique US retail SKU or current local inventory for either pick.
The SQAIR knowledge base distinguishes 110–120 V and 220–240 V versions, yet the global product table says 100–240 V and its linked manual says 220–240 V. For the SA600, the current page and manual agree on 100–240 V, and the page identifies Type A.

SQAIR pack-count trap: its replacement page names E12 EPA media but the contents line says ‘2x HEPA Filters’. Confirm how many matching panels the US pack actually contains before calculating cost per change. A SA600 HEPA two-pack supplies both installed particle-filter positions; its carbon two-pack is a separate order.
The life estimates also need context: SQAIR's manual recommends 2–5 months at eight hours per day, conflicting with the replacement page's six months. SA600's check light comes on after about 1,045 hours, but the product FAQ explicitly calls it a check reminder rather than a replacement deadline. Smart Air says actual filter life depends on local conditions and usage, and carbon life varies with background VOCs.
Carbon is optional on both models when you only want particle filtration. EPA explains that particle CADR does not rate gas removal, so don't use the airflow bars as a carbon-performance comparison. For SA600 upkeep, the manual calls for monthly cleaning and says HEPA and carbon filters cannot be washed.
Replacement-cost worksheet
Use current checkout totals instead of assuming that the model with fewer panels has the cheaper year. For each purifier, fill in:
- Packs needed: round up (panels per change × planned changes ÷ confirmed panels per pack).
- Particle-filter spend: packs needed × current pack price.
- Carbon spend: repeat that calculation separately if you will keep using carbon.
- Total: particle media + carbon media + delivery and tax. For full running costs, add electricity using your chosen speed and local tariff.
Regard replacement frequency as an input you can revise, not a guaranteed calendar interval. This worksheet deliberately gives no price winner without current pack totals and a confirmed replacement schedule.
Confirm the region
Match the US electrical rating, plug and exact purifier revision.
Confirm the starter kit
SQAIR Standard or carbon bundle; SA600 with its paired media and pre-filters.
Add a complete spare set
Confirm SQAIR pack quantity; SA600 particle and carbon pairs are separate packs.
Verdict
Get the five-speed SA600 for more published airflow and an included carbon set; order its HEPA two-pack for a complete first particle-filter change. Choose SQAIR Standard for the low body and simple dial, with one installed E12 panel and carbon optional. Confirm the US electrical version and spare-pack contents before paying.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Smart Air purifier controlled by Wi-Fi?
Smart Air is the brand in this comparison. The SQAIR uses a rotary dial and the SA600 uses physical fan-speed buttons. Smart Air documents an external Wi-Fi plug for switching the SQAIR on and off remotely, but it cannot change fan speed. Choose by the controls you actually want rather than the brand name.
How many replacement filters does the SA600 need?
A complete particle-filter change needs two SA600 H13 HEPA panels; one official HEPA two-pack supplies that pair. Refreshing carbon as well takes the separate carbon two-pack. The standard purifier already includes both pairs and two pre-filters. Smart Air says you can omit carbon if you only want particle filtration, and the pre-filters are washable.
Which SQAIR voltage should I buy in the US?
Choose the US 110–120 V version identified in Smart Air’s voltage guidance, and confirm the shipped unit’s rating and plug. The generic product page says 100–240 V, but the linked SQAIR manual says 220–240 V. Those documents disagree, so do not regard the generic page as proof that every SQAIR is universal voltage.
Which has cheaper replacement filters, SQAIR or SA600?
Filter count alone cannot settle the running cost. The SQAIR uses one particle panel at a time; the SA600 uses a pair. Compare the current checkout cost per complete change, confirmed pack quantities and your expected replacement frequency. Add carbon separately if you will keep using it. The worksheet below avoids assuming that either model has a fixed annual filter bill.
