Show the sizing rule & unknowns
AHAM’s everyday rule is room area in ft² × ⅔; for smoke season, use area × 1. The smoke CADR target is rounded upward. It is a planning calculation for a standard ceiling, not a product specification or measured performance.
No positive verdict is given for taller ceilings or quiet settings. A CADR with no pollutant label cannot be used as smoke CADR.

Our picks at a glance
- 1

Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
Choose for: Mechanical filtration with a washable pre-filter and one combined carbon/HEPA replacement.
Limit: Smoke CADR is maker-rated at 240; the cited specifications do not state units. No AHAM or ENERGY STAR listing was confirmed.
- 2

Choose for: Automatic controls and app schedules for a smaller room.
Limit: Its 219 sq ft claim uses 4.8 air changes per hour; the headline 1,051 sq ft uses just one. Match the room-size basis.
- 3

Choose for: A larger-room purifier with automatic controls and app schedules.
Limit: HEPASilent includes an electronic filtration stage; choose a mechanical-only purifier if you want to avoid that stage.

Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH
Choose for: Manual speeds, Auto and Eco, with separate carbon and HEPA filters.
Limit: The air-quality lamp can be toggled; whole-panel blackout and button-sound mute are unconfirmed. No app schedules.
About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
For bedroom use, our first pick is the Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N: its manual documents an all-lights-off setting and a sound mute, so darkness and button sounds need not dictate fan speed. Choose the Levoit Core 300S-P for a compact purifier with app schedules, or the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max when a larger room makes airflow capacity the priority. These recommendations come from official specifications and manuals, without physical testing or a claim that the lowest advertised decibel figure wins.
Quick picks
- Dark room and muted controls: Mighty2, with separate light and sound settings.
- Small bedroom and schedules: Core 300S-P; allow space around its intake.
- Large bedroom: 211i Max, with the largest maker-published smoke CADR here.
- Prefer the original Mighty: AP-1512HH; its light toggle covers the air-quality lamp, rather than promising a completely dark panel.
For general room-size choices, see our air purifier buying guide. This page focuses on what you will operate beside a bed.

The Mighty2 manual additionally lists 450 ft² in 15 minutes, 900 ft² in 30 minutes and 1,800 ft² in 60 minutes; its coverage footnote separately describes a basis of two air changes per hour. We do not convert that mixed presentation into a claimed 4.8-ACH rating. Blueair explicitly says its CADR and room-size figures changed for new DOE standards and packaging may differ; the table uses its current page.
AHAM check, November 2, 2026: we could not retrieve an exact-model certificate for these four picks from the AHAM directory. Its US brand list includes Blueair and LEVOIT but no Coway or Airmega; that is not a model-level certification check. None of the table figures is presented as an independently confirmed AHAM listing.
Why Sleep mode does not establish bedroom coverage
AHAM's testing FAQ says CADR is based on the highest fan speed; lower speeds reduce room coverage. Sleep- or Night-mode CADR is unconfirmed for every pick in the sources checked. A large maximum CADR gives you more capacity to choose from, but does not prove a particular quiet-speed output.
AHAM's suggested room size uses 4.8 ACH. For an initial smoke-CADR screen, its two-thirds rule says a 10-by-12-foot room, or 120 ft², calls for a smoke CADR of at least 80; ceilings above 8 feet call for a larger-rated unit. Use the room-size basis beside the number, rather than comparing an hourly coverage headline with a 4.8-ACH figure.
Tap a label to explore. You can also hover or use your keyboard.
Match the room basis
Compare room claims using the same air-change basis. AHAM bases suggested room size on 4.8 air changes per hour.

AHAM bases CADR on the highest fan speed. Check the rated mode before applying that capacity to a quieter setting.

Coverage decreasesLook for mode-specific output
AHAM says lower fan speeds reduce room coverage. Look for a rating at your intended speed before assuming the headline room size applies.

- Yes: Compare room claims on the same air-change basis
- Partly: Maximum CADR is a sizing reference; quiet-mode output remains unconfirmed
- No: Pair a minimum noise figure and maximum CADR as a simultaneous operating point
The published noise ranges lack matching measurement distances and conditions. We therefore cannot use them to rank sound at your pillow or at equal CADR. Choose controls first, then assess the fan setting you intend to leave running.
Best bedroom controls: Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N

Coway
Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
The 2026 successor to Coway's Mighty: smoke CADR 240, a side-access pre-filter plus a combined carbon and HEPA filter, a PM1/2.5/10 laser sensor, and a purely mechanical design with no ionizer.
Check package and model options
- 240 CFM smoke CADR
- Removable pre-filter + Max2 filter (activated carbon + HEPA)
- 19 dB lowest setting
The Mighty2 is our first choice when lights and beeps are the deciding factors. Its manual offers light settings for all lights on, air-quality color off, LED display off and all lights off. Hold Speed + Light for three seconds to toggle sound. These are more useful buying details than the maker's 19 dB minimum alone.
Sleep mode runs the lowest airflow and leaves the Sleep indicator illuminated. For darkness with a chosen manual speed, use the separate light setting. Smart mode can switch into Sleep after three minutes of darkness, while its Eco behavior can stop the fan; choose manual operation if you want a steady setting. The documented timer is an off countdown of up to 12 hours; we found no recurring app schedule for this model in its sources.
Buying trap: AP-1512N is Mighty2, not AP-1512HH. Its Max2 combines activated carbon and HEPA; the washable pre-filter slides out to the right. Leave access on that side before putting it beside furniture.
Best compact smart pick: Levoit Core 300S-P

Levoit
A compact Wi-Fi purifier with a 3-stage filter, sleep mode and app or voice control, sized by Levoit at 219 sq ft on the 4.8-air-change basis.
Check package and model options
- 219 sq ft room
- 3-stage filter (Levoit's 'Original' filter; the page does not call it True HEPA)
- 22 dB lowest setting
Levoit lists an 8.7-by-8.7-inch footprint and 219 ft² at 4.8 ACH. VeSync adds recurring schedules, making this our pick for a smaller bedroom where you want automatic start times. The manual documents local controls as well as app functions; app setup requires a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Darkness has an exception. Display Off works separately from Sleep mode, but the Check Filter Indicator can remain on. Sleep runs below fan speed one and blanks the display after three seconds. The manual documents no sound-mute control; that leaves beep behavior unconfirmed, rather than establishing silent buttons.
The product page says a 1–24-hour timer; its linked manual specifies 1–12 hours on the purifier and 1–24 hours through the app. That manual also gives a different upper noise limit, shown in the table. Verify the supplied manual before relying on either detail.
Variant check: the 300S-P page calls its model Core 300S; the separate Core 300-P page calls its model Core 300. Match the full name when ordering.
Best large-bedroom option: Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max

Blueair
A large-room purifier with a 360-degree intake, a washable fabric pre-filter, PM1/PM2.5/PM10 sensing and app control, rated by Blueair at smoke CADR 435 and 674 sq ft.
Check package and model options
- 435 CFM smoke CADR
- 674 sq ft room
- Washable fabric pre-filter + particle and carbon filter (HEPASilent: mechanical plus electrostatic)
- 23 dB lowest setting
Blueair publishes smoke CADR 435 CFM and 674 ft² at 4.8 ACH: the highest smoke CADR and largest stated 4.8-ACH room claim here. The 211i Max's 674 ft² room rating does not establish coverage in Night mode. Check floor space and filter access before you order.
The 211i Max manual describes Night as the lowest fan speed with dimmed lights. Brightness also has a separate button combination; it does not explicitly promise a blackout setting. Hold Fan Speed + On/Standby for three seconds, keep holding On/Standby, then tap Fan Speed to adjust brightness. No sound-mute setting is documented there.
The Blueair app adds schedules. Initial pairing needs Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; basic button operation is available without pairing. If staying offline, the manual lets you disable Wi-Fi by holding Auto for 15 seconds.
Original Mighty alternative: Coway AP-1512HH

Coway
Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH
Coway's long-running mid-size purifier: smoke CADR 233 with a washable pre-filter, carbon deodorization filter and HEPA filter, a particle sensor with auto mode, and a switchable ionizer.
Check package and model options
- 233 CFM smoke CADR
- 361 sq ft room
- Washable pre-filter + carbon deodorization filter + HEPA; switchable ionizer
- 24 dB lowest setting
Choose this deliberately if you prefer the original Mighty's controls and separate filters. Its manual documents fixed fan speeds, Auto and Eco. Holding Ionizer for three seconds toggles the air-quality lamp; a short press switches the ionizer itself. That is not a documented all-panel blackout control.
Eco stops the fan after 30 minutes without detected pollution. For continuous operation at a chosen setting, select a manual speed. Its timer switches off after 1, 4 or 8 hours; the manual provides no recurring schedule or mute setting. Coway's connected MightyS AP-1512HHS is the separate model with app scheduling.
Noise conflict: beyond the one-sheet range in our table, that same sheet also claims 22 dB(A) on low. Coway's current product page says 24–53 dB(A). We cannot reconcile those claims or turn them into a single measured result.
Bedroom controls at a glance
These are documented controls, not observations from use. Unconfirmed means the checked manual does not establish the feature.

Levoit compatibility conflict: its Original filter page says it is designed for Core 300-P / 300S-P, but its opening compatibility list omits 300S-P. The purifier's manual names Core 300-P-RF. Confirm the spare against your unit with Levoit before ordering; do not infer compatibility from the family name alone.
For placement, Levoit's manual requires 15 inches / 38 cm on all sides, away from curtains. Blueair's Max support page says at least 10 cm from objects or walls. Coway calls for sufficient air circulation around Mighty2; also leave its right-side pre-filter accessible. Do not borrow another model's clearance figure.
Unpack the filter
Follow the model's manual and remove its filter packaging before operation.
Choose the position
Preserve the maker's clearance and space to remove the filter.
Set the evening controls
Select fan speed, then lights and any documented sound mute; check what remains illuminated.
Choose a timer deliberately
Use an off countdown only when you want shutdown; recurring starts need a documented schedule.
If you also want to compare air movement from a separate appliance, see our quiet bedroom fan guide.
How we choose
We compared official US product pages, their linked manuals, AHAM's sizing guidance and its directory, checked November 2, 2026. We prioritize usable room capacity, independent control of lighting, documented mute behavior, schedules and exact filter identification. Recommendations are editorial judgments from those specifications.
We have not physically tested these purifiers. We cannot establish motor tone, perceived loudness at a bed, or filtration at quiet speeds from these documents. Conflicting maker figures remain visible, and an unconfirmed feature is not treated as absent. See how we choose for the site's method.
Verdict
Choose Mighty2 for the clearest documented control over darkness and sound. Choose Core 300S-P for a compact scheduled setup, 211i Max for a larger bedroom, or the AP-1512HH when you specifically want the original Mighty. Size using a stated air-change basis, then choose your operating mode: the minimum noise claim does not certify maximum room coverage.
Frequently asked questions
What is the quietest air purifier for a bedroom?
Of these picks, Coway publishes the lowest minimum for the Mighty2: 19 dB. That does not establish the quietest machine at equal filtration output, because the published ranges lack matching measurement conditions and sleep-speed CADR figures. Our bedroom-controls pick is the Mighty2 because its manual documents both an all-lights-off option and sound mute.
Does an air purifier cover its advertised room size in Sleep mode?
Do not assume so. AHAM says CADR uses the highest fan speed and that room coverage decreases at lower speeds. None of the product sources checked here gives a Sleep- or Night-mode CADR. Use the room sizes in the comparison as sizing references, then choose an operating speed whose sound you can tolerate; quiet-mode coverage remains unconfirmed.
Can you turn off all the lights on the Levoit Core 300S-P?
Its Display Off button turns off the button and indicator lights except the Check Filter Indicator. Sleep mode also turns the display off after three seconds, but that filter reminder can still remain on. If complete darkness is essential, the Mighty2 manual explicitly provides an all-lights-off setting; its default Sleep mode still leaves the Sleep indicator on.
Are Mighty and Mighty2 filters interchangeable?
Choose by exact model, rather than the Mighty family name. The AP-1512N Mighty2 uses a combined Max2 carbon-and-HEPA filter. The AP-1512HH uses separate deodorization and HEPA filters, with different replacement intervals. Coway also sells a connected MightyS with its own filter set. Confirm the model on the purifier before ordering a spare.
