About this guide

For a small nursery, start with the Levoit Vital 100S-P if you want a washable pre-filter and a settings lock; Levoit rates it for 222 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. Choose Coway Airmega 150 for controls without an app, or Mighty2 for a documented button-sound mute and an All lights off option. The Core 300S-P, at 8.7 inches across, is our compact alternative.
Official specifications and linked instructions checked November 2, 2026. These are research-based recommendations.
Quick picks and room comparison
Use these as published specifications, then check the controls below. None of these maximum-room figures is a promise of coverage in Sleep Mode. EPA explains that CADR is typically measured at the highest speed.

ACH means air changes per hour. Coway’s documents use different bases: Mighty2’s page advertises 1,800 sq ft at 1 ACH, while its manual’s coverage paragraph says 2 ACH. We keep its original timing in the comparison; neither cited specification supplies a matched 4.8 ACH room rating. Levoit does not label the pollutant for either CADR above, so we do not present them as smoke CADRs.
Sources: Vital, 150, Core, Mighty2. The noise ranges are manufacturer figures from separate specifications; they do not establish a recommended volume for infants.
Best starting point: Levoit Vital 100S-P
Choose it for the removable washable pre-filter. Its linked manual says to hold Display Lock for 3 seconds; local button taps then cannot change settings, but VeSync can still change them.
Sleep Mode blanks the display after 6 seconds, with an exception for the check-filter alert. VeSync also offers Display Off, again excluding that alert. Light Detection can restrict high and turbo speeds in darkness, so do not assume automatic dimming leaves airflow unchanged.
Check the model code: the US product page names LAP-V102S-WUS, while its linked US manual names LAP-V102S-AUSR. The operating instructions here are from that linked booklet; confirm them against the booklet supplied with your unit.

Best without an app: Coway Airmega 150
The 150 provides local power, airflow-speed, light and filter-reset controls. Its pre-filter pulls out from the top, so leave room above it for servicing. Coway’s care instructions permit washing or vacuuming that layer and require complete drying before reinstalling it.
Dove White and Sage Green are finishes of the 150; the replacement filter set is a separate accessory.
The limitation: Coway documents switching off the air-quality light; the cited control list does not document a panel lock, a button-sound mute or a complete display blackout. If those are essential, choose a model with explicit instructions below.

Best for a small footprint: Levoit Core 300S-P

Levoit
A compact Wi-Fi purifier with a 3-stage filter, sleep mode and app or voice control, sized by Levoit at 219 sq ft on the 4.8-air-change basis.
Check package and model options
- 219 sq ft room
- 3-stage filter (Levoit's 'Original' filter; the page does not call it True HEPA)
- 22 dB lowest setting
Core’s separate Display Off button lets you blank its normal display without selecting Sleep Mode; its check-filter indicator can remain lit. Hold Display Lock for 3 seconds to prevent local setting changes; the app can still override the lock.
Choose the smart 300S-P, whose specification block calls it Core 300S. The care trade-off is access: unplug it, turn it over and remove the bottom filter cover. Clean the outer pre-filter with a brush or vacuum; do not wash the cartridge.
Its small body still needs 15 inches / 38 cm clear on all sides, so budget for the operating space as well as the cabinet.

Best light and sound controls: Coway Airmega Mighty2

Coway
Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
The 2026 successor to Coway's Mighty: smoke CADR 240, a side-access pre-filter plus a combined carbon and HEPA filter, a PM1/2.5/10 laser sensor, and a purely mechanical design with no ionizer.
Check package and model options
- 240 CFM smoke CADR
- Removable pre-filter + Max2 filter (activated carbon + HEPA)
- 19 dB lowest setting
The full-size AP-1512N has separate All lights off, fan-speed and lock controls. Hold Light for 3 seconds to lock or unlock; hold Speed and Light together for 3 seconds to toggle button sounds.
Prefer a chosen manual speed if you want steady operation: in Smart mode, darkness can trigger Sleep, and Eco can stop the fan. Sleep Mode itself leaves the Sleep indicator lit. Its pre-filter slides out to the right, so reserve service access there.
Care conflict: Coway’s page calls the pre-filter washable, but the manual specifies a vacuum or dry cloth. Use the manual’s dry method; do not wash the Max2 filter.

Buying guide: size the room before choosing a quiet mode
Measure length × width and count the whole connected area you intend to serve; EPA advises allowing for ceilings above 8 feet. AHAM’s example is a room measuring 10 feet by 12 feet: 120 sq ft, with smoke CADR of at least 80 under its two-thirds rule. That is a sizing reference, not a Sleep Mode rating.
EPA says lower fan speeds filter less air; these cited specifications do not give a corresponding Sleep Mode CADR. If the needed airflow is too loud in your room, consider a larger model rather than treating the lowest decibel figure as full output. For a broader room shortlist, see our quiet air purifiers for bedrooms.
Filtration or humidification?
A purifier filters airborne particles; a humidifier adds moisture. Carbon is a separate gas-filtering layer, and particle CADR does not rate gas removal. Use our air purifier vs humidifier guide to choose the job, or nursery humidifiers for moisture-focused choices.
- Yes: Choose particle filtration for airborne dust
- Partly: Carbon is a separate consideration for gases
- No: A purifier is not the appliance for adding moisture
Placement and cord routing
Vital: its linked manual requires 15 inches / 38 cm in front; Core: its manual requires 15 inches / 38 cm on all sides. Keep curtains clear of the airflow.
150: Coway’s general maintenance guide describes front intake and top exhaust, with about six to twelve inches clear wherever air enters or leaves. That is general guidance; the supplied model manual takes priority. Mighty2: its manual requires a firm, flat, dry surface, sufficient circulation and unblocked sides.
Levoit says to keep Vital near its outlet and keep the cord away from walkways, rugs and furniture. Coway says not to use an adapter or extension cord with Mighty2 and to route its cord away from traffic. Vital’s manual also says to keep it away from humidifiers.
Coway specifically warns to keep a detached Mighty2 power cord away from infants and children.
Unwrap the filter
Remove the filter packaging before running the purifier.
Reserve service space
Allow front access for Vital, top access for 150, bottom access for Core and right-side access for Mighty2.
Choose the operating state
Set airflow and lighting, then use the documented lock if fitted.

Vital’s intervals conflict: its filter page says 6–12 months; the linked manual says about 9 months in prose and 9–12 months in its care table. Check condition and the filter reminder instead of treating an interval as guaranteed life.
Core fit needs checking: the single-filter page summary names 300S-P, but its “Compatible with only” list omits it. The official two-pack explicitly names Core 300-P / 300S-P and calls the cartridges Core 300-RF. Match model and pack before buying; do not assume similarly named filters are interchangeable.
For an existing 150, check Coway’s serial-code compatibility list before ordering a replacement set. Keep Mighty2 AP-1512N distinct from the original Mighty and Mighty2 Mini when matching parts.
How we choose
We prioritize documented controls, consistent room-sizing bases, service access and exact replacement parts. The evidence comes from official product pages, linked manuals, maker support and EPA/AHAM guidance; these picks do not draw on physical testing. Unspecified CADR pollutants and conflicting documents stay visible. CADRs here are manufacturer figures; a model-specific AHAM directory listing was not verified. Read our selection method.
Verdict
Buy Vital 100S-P for removable pre-filter care and a local lock, Airmega 150 for controls without an app, or Core 300S-P for a small footprint. Choose full-size Mighty2 when separate lights-off, lock and mute controls decide the purchase.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best air purifier for a nursery without an app?
Choose the Coway Airmega 150 if you want local power, fan-speed and light controls without an app. Its published room rating is 214 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. A control lock and button-sound mute are not documented in its listed controls; choose a model with those functions explicitly documented if they are requirements.
Can an air purifier run with the lights off without Sleep Mode?
The Core 300S-P has a separate Display Off control, although its check-filter alert can stay on. Mighty2 offers an All lights off setting as well as separate fan-speed controls. Use those controls when you want a darker display without selecting the lowest airflow. Sleep Mode reduces airflow on both models, so their maximum room ratings do not establish room coverage at that setting.
Should I buy an air purifier or a humidifier for a nursery?
Choose the job first: a purifier filters airborne particles, while a humidifier adds moisture. See our air purifier vs humidifier guide if that decision is still open. Levoit directs owners to keep the Vital away from water and humidifiers. Do not place the two appliances together as a single bedside setup; follow each maker’s placement instructions.
Can I wash the filters in these nursery air purifiers?
Wash only a layer whose maker permits it. Vital’s removable pre-filter can be washed and must air-dry completely; the main particle/carbon filter is replaced. Coway permits washing or vacuuming the 150 pre-filter, followed by complete drying. Core’s cartridge pre-filter needs dry cleaning. For Mighty2, the page says washable but the manual specifies a vacuum or dry cloth, so use the manual’s method.
