About this guide
thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.
A dehumidifier removes excess moisture; an air purifier filters airborne particles. For a damp room, our starting pick is the Frigidaire FHDD3534Y1, rated for 35 pints/day; for particle filtration, choose the Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N, with a maker-published smoke CADR of 240 CFM. If both jobs apply, use separate appliances sized for each task, starting with a humidity reading.
For ideal indoor humidity, EPA advises below 60% RH, ideally 30–50% where possible. Use that as moisture guidance, rather than a reason to buy equipment before checking the room.

EPA says source control and ventilation with clean outdoor air come first. For mustiness or visible growth, investigate leaks and damp materials before shopping: neither machine repairs the building. Carbon filtration is also not a blanket answer to smells; EPA says effectiveness depends on having substantial gas-filtering material, and CADR rates particles only.
Start with a reading and a room check
Record humidity under normal room use, rather than buying from a “stuffy” impression. Check for water entry and whether bathroom and kitchen exhaust remove moisture at its source; federal dehumidifier guidance recommends those source fixes. Our buying rule is to consider a dehumidifier when readings remain above the recommended range after those checks; choose filtration for a separate particle problem, both for both jobs, or neither when neither job is established.
Read the humidity
Record normal conditions and changes during room use.
Find the source
Inspect leaks and moisture-producing activities; check exhaust ventilation.
Choose the job
Moisture removal, particle filtration, both, or no appliance yet.
Plan placement
Measure the room and map the drain route before choosing a model.
Best starting dehumidifier: Frigidaire FHDD3534Y1
Choose this model when the room needs moisture removal and bucket emptying or gravity drainage fits your routine. Its specification sheet lists 35 pints/day, a 1.7-gallon bucket, Wi-Fi and no pump. Daily removal and bucket storage are separate specifications.
For continuous drainage, the manual calls for a garden hose, recommends 1/2-inch or larger, and says to avoid kinks and elevations. Add that hose to your shopping list if using a lower drain. The operating range is 41–89°F; that minimum is not a promise of full rated removal in a cold room. Clean the dust filter and bucket every two weeks under normal conditions, per the manual.
See Frigidaire's specifications.
Best lighter-load option: Midea Cube MAD20S1QWT
The Cube 20 is our alternative for a lighter moisture load: 20 pints/day, an included continuous-drain hose, SmartHome app control and a nesting design for storage. Midea explicitly lists Built-in Pump: No. An included hose does not make it an upward-draining model.
Midea advertises up to 1,500 sq ft, but do not equate that with a purifier's room rating. Choose using moisture conditions as well as area. Order MAD20S1QWT specifically; the Cube name alone does not establish capacity or pump equipment.
Best when drainage must rise: Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1
For the best dehumidifier with a pump among these choices, pick the FHDP5033Y1 when you actually need its drainage route. Its sheet lists 50 pints/day, a 1.9-gallon bucket, Wi-Fi and a built-in pump.
The pump manual specifies maximum distance and rise of 5 m (16.4 feet). It also says pumping waits until the bucket reaches its full point: seeing water collect first is not by itself a fault. Confirm the matching pump hose is supplied, and schedule pump-filter cleaning every two weeks under normal conditions.
Best greater-airflow purifier: Coway Mighty2 AP-1512N
Choose the Mighty2 for particle filtration when its 240 CFM smoke CADR fits your room. Coway lists a pre-filter plus a Max2 activated-carbon-and-HEPA filter, with a nominal filter life of one year.

Coway
Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
The 2026 successor to Coway's Mighty: smoke CADR 240, a side-access pre-filter plus a combined carbon and HEPA filter, a PM1/2.5/10 laser sensor, and a purely mechanical design with no ionizer.
Check package and model options
- 240 CFM smoke CADR
- Removable pre-filter + Max2 filter (activated carbon + HEPA)
- 19 dB lowest setting
Coverage needs care: Coway's product page labels 1,800 sq ft at one air change per hour, while its manual's coverage footnote says the basis is two air changes per hour. We do not reconcile those statements into a larger-room recommendation. Use the smoke CADR for sizing, rather than treating the headline area as comparable to Levoit's 4.8-ACH figure.
The manual recommends pre-filter cleaning every 2–4 weeks and Max2 replacement every 12 months, adjusted to conditions; do not wash Max2. Order the full-size AP-1512N and its matching filter, and remove the filter's plastic wrapping before first use.
Best smaller smart purifier: Levoit Core 300S-P
The Core 300S-P is our smaller-room option for VeSync schedules. Levoit lists 219 sq ft at 4.8 ACH, versus 1,051 sq ft at one ACH. Those describe different air-change rates, not different versions of the machine.

Levoit
A compact Wi-Fi purifier with a 3-stage filter, sleep mode and app or voice control, sized by Levoit at 219 sq ft on the 4.8-air-change basis.
Check package and model options
- 219 sq ft room
- 3-stage filter (Levoit's 'Original' filter; the page does not call it True HEPA)
- 22 dB lowest setting
Its page gives 141 CFM CADR without identifying the pollutant, so we do not relabel that as verified smoke CADR. An Original filter is pre-installed; an extra filter is a spare, rather than a missing starter part. Choose 300S-P for these smart features, and check the model carefully rather than substituting a 300-P listing.
Best first purchase if you lack a reading: Govee H5075
The H5075 has an LCD, humidity accuracy of ±3% RH, and app history with CSV export. Buy a single unit for your initial room check; multipacks change the quantity.
It uses two AAA batteries and connects through Govee Home over Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi. Govee's marketing and FAQ disagree on maximum Bluetooth range, so regard reach as unconfirmed and do not choose it for monitoring while away from home. Confirm batteries are included or add them. Its history is useful for comparing room use with changes in humidity, without relying on a purifier's particle indicator.
Sizing, noise and electricity: compare matching conditions
Dehumidifiers: capacity guidance uses both floor area and dampness. For spaces below 2,000 sq ft, it suggests 20–30 pints/day for slightly to moderately damp conditions, 25–40 for very damp conditions and 30–50 for wet conditions. These are starting ranges, not permission to leave seepage unrepaired. The guidance also warns that low temperatures can reduce performance.
Purifiers: AHAM's rule is smoke CADR of at least two-thirds of floor area with an 8-foot ceiling; use a larger-rated unit for higher ceilings. For wildfire smoke, AHAM recommends smoke CADR equal to floor area. Our product figures above are maker-published; we have not confirmed matching current entries in the AHAM Verifide directory. Check the exact model there before treating a figure as independently verified.
Noise: Frigidaire publishes 48 dBA low / 51 dBA high for the 35-pint model, Coway 19–50 decibels for Mighty2, and Levoit 22–50 dB for 300S-P. These figures do not establish a matched comparison of sound at your chair. EPA says CADR is typically measured at highest speed; do not assume the lowest sound figure comes with the advertised airflow.
Electricity: the sheets list 360 W for FHDD3534Y1, 56 W for Mighty2 and 23 W for Core 300S-P. These are published power figures, not a forecast of your bill. For dehumidifier efficiency, compare integrated energy factor in L/kWh: the federal guide says a higher value means more water removed per unit of energy. Include replacement filters and cleaning in the ownership decision.
Two complete shopping kits
Moisture only: FHDD3534Y1 + H5075 + a bucket-emptying plan, or a suitable garden hose to a lower drain. Check the monitor's batteries. Keep drainage away from electrical cords and connections, and follow the appliance's airflow clearances.
Both jobs in a smaller room: MAD20S1QWT + Core 300S-P + H5075. Midea lists the continuous-drain hose as included; Levoit includes the Original filter. Confirm that the drain runs downhill and that the moisture load suits the Cube separately from the purifier's room rating. Substitute the pump Frigidaire if the route must rise, rather than expecting the Cube's hose to do that job.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday: check the exact kit
Before comparing offers, match model code, capacity, pump equipment, filter and pack count against this guide. Check whether a hose or spare filter is included, and whether you are buying a purifier or a replacement filter. Do not let a sale label choose the appliance category; finish the room and drainage checks first.
How we choose
This is a specification-based comparison using official product pages, manuals, EPA guidance and AHAM's sizing advice. Recommendations reflect the documented task, drainage arrangement, filter upkeep and room-rating basis. No physical testing contributed to these selections, and maker sound figures do not establish a quietness ranking.

Verdict
Measure first. Choose FHDD3534Y1 for moisture removal with bucket or downhill drainage, MAD20S1QWT for a lighter load with an included hose, or FHDP5033Y1 when a pump is necessary. For particles, choose Mighty2 AP-1512N by smoke CADR or Core 300S-P by its smaller-room rating and app features. Buy both appliance types only when you have both jobs.
Frequently asked questions
Does an air purifier work as a dehumidifier?
No. These purifiers filter airborne particles; a dehumidifier condenses moisture and collects the water. Choose using an actual relative-humidity reading and the filtration job, rather than a general feeling that the room is stuffy. A purifier's particle indicator is not a humidity reading, and its carbon filter does not replace moisture control.
Can you run a dehumidifier and an air purifier together?
Yes, when you need both moisture removal and particle filtration. Size each appliance for its own job, leave its air passages clear and route drainage away from electrical cords and connections. Keep checking humidity separately. The dehumidifier's daily removal rating and the purifier's CADR describe different tasks; neither rating establishes the other's performance.
Which should I buy for a musty room or visible mold?
Investigate the water source first. EPA says portable air cleaners do not resolve a mold and moisture problem: the source of moisture needs fixing and existing growth needs cleaning up. A dehumidifier can remove moisture from the air, but it does not repair a leak. Choose filtration separately if airborne particles are also a concern.
Do I need a dehumidifier with a pump?
Choose a pump when your drain route needs to rise and you do not want to empty a bucket. Gravity drainage needs a downhill route without kinks or elevated sections. The Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1 provides a built-in pump, but its manual limits the distance and rise to 5 m (16.4 feet); check the whole route before buying.
Does a dehumidifier cool a room?
No. The Frigidaire manual describes the discharge as dry, warm air, and federal buying guidance says dehumidification slightly warms the surrounding space. Buy it to remove moisture, rather than as a substitute for air conditioning. Check the model's operating-temperature range as well, especially when shopping for a cold basement or garage.
