About this guide

thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.

For most buyers choosing between these models, pick the Levoit LV600S for selectable cool/warm ultrasonic mist, a humidity target and top-access refilling. Pick the Vicks V750 if you specifically want a filter-free steam mechanism and a simple high/low switch, and can accommodate its hot-steam placement and cooling requirements. The important warm mist vs cool mist humidifier distinction here is boiling water versus ultrasonic mist with optional heat. (LV600S manual, V750 manual)

Sources: V750 product specifications and FAQ, V750 manual and LV600S US manual.

  • Yes: V750: steam from a boiling chamber; high/low operation
  • Yes: LV600S: selectable cool/warm mist and a humidity target
  • Partly: LV600S: plan for low-mineral water and cleaning, whichever mist setting you choose
  • No: Neither: a substitute for checking condensation and maintaining the tank

For the wider technology decision, see evaporative vs ultrasonic humidifiers. Our best humidifiers guide covers other mechanisms and sizes.

Best for controls and refill access: Levoit LV600S

The LV600S is our default recommendation because it combines a larger tank with a target-humidity control. Its physical buttons handle mist, heat, humidity, timer and display settings; an app is optional for those functions. The manual's refill procedure removes the top cover and lifts out the tank, avoiding the V750's underside cap. Neither manual instructs filling with hot water. (Levoit, Vicks)

Set a humidity target and it stops misting when that target is reached, restarting when humidity drops 5 percentage points below it. That control stops output rather than increasing mist strength to reach the target faster. VeSync adds remote control and schedules, with secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi required for setup. (LV600S controls and setup)

There is a significant winter caveat. The manual says Sleep Mode turns the display off and automatically controls mist to maintain 50–60% RH, initially switching warm mist off. It separately offers a custom humidity target from 40% to 80%. Those are appliance settings, whereas EPA says not to humidify above 50%. For winter use, we recommend a custom target below that ceiling and checking the room; the display can be switched off separately. (LV600S manual)

Noise and power: Levoit's low-cool and high-warm sound figures refer to different modes, so they do not establish how it sounds beside the V750. Its 280W rating is not documented as constant consumption in every setting. We cannot substantiate a cool-only wattage, an electricity-cost saving or a measured quietness winner from these documents.

Best for a simple steam mechanism: Vicks V750

The V750 feeds water into a boiling chamber, then mixes steam with dry air in the chimney. Vicks explicitly says it has no fan: high and low change the heating output. No fan does not establish silence. The product page also lists an empty-tank shutoff and a soft-glow night light. (Vicks mechanism and controls, manual)

Refilling means lifting the tank with both hands and opening its bottom cap. After an empty-tank indication, the manual's reset procedure says to switch off, wait 15 minutes, refill and restart. For moving, removing components or cleaning, it instead specifies 20–30 minutes after switching off and unplugging. The refill reset is not a dismantling instruction. (V750 instructions)

Its humidity advice also needs context: Vicks calls 40–60% comfortable, while EPA's humidifier guidance says not to exceed 50%. We use EPA's ceiling for this comparison and recommend watching a hygrometer and windows rather than leaving the high setting running by habit. Vicks itself says to switch off when condensation appears. (Vicks, EPA)

White dust versus scale: choose your water routine

The LV600S manual warns that tap water may leave white dust and recommends purified water. Its absorption pads address mineral buildup inside the unit, especially on the heating element; that is not a promise to remove airborne mineral dust. We would buy it only with a workable low-mineral-water routine. Selecting warm mist does not remove the manual's water guidance. (Levoit filling and absorption pads)

EPA recommends low-mineral water, including distilled water, and says steam vaporizers are not expected to disperse substantial minerals. That gives the V750 a mechanism-based advantage if mineral white dust is your deciding concern. It still accumulates scale: its troubleshooting table identifies deposits on the heating element or tray as a possible cause of reduced mist. The heating chamber still needs attention. (EPA, V750 maintenance)

Cleaning: what you must actually take apart

Both manuals describe weekly cleaning; EPA recommends emptying, drying and refilling portable units daily and cleaning every third day. Our recommendation is to follow that more frequent schedule while using each maker's model-specific cleaning method. Runtime does not replace water changes. (Vicks, Levoit, EPA)

V750: switch off, unplug and cool for 20–30 minutes. Empty the tank, release the chimney and remove the tray. The scale-removal instructions specify 1 cup of vinegar for the tank/base step, a 15–20-minute heating-element soak, gentle brushing and rinsing until the solution's smell is gone. Follow the manual's separate disinfecting stage after scale removal; consult its directions for that solution. Do not immerse the base. (V750 cleaning instructions)

LV600S: unplug and let it cool completely after warm-mist use. Its procedure removes the tank's mist channel/tube and water filter, plus the base's float, noise silencer, absorption pad and aroma box. For descaling, follow the reconfiguration in the manual: leave the mist tube/channel in place, add 3 US cups / 710 mL of distilled white vinegar to the tank, swish, seat it on the base and soak 15–20 minutes. The specified loose parts soak separately; use the soft cloth/brush, rinse away vinegar and dry before reassembly. (LV600S cleaning instructions)

Dishwasher difference: Levoit says no part is dishwasher-safe. Vicks permits only the medicine cup, removable tray and mist chimney on the top rack below 70°C/158°F, with no detergent or soiled dishes; the main housing and tank are excluded. (Vicks, Levoit)

Placement and a separate humidity check

The V750 manual specifies a firm, flat, waterproof surface at least four feet from bedside and twelve inches from the wall, with the appliance and cord beyond children and pets. It calls for a direct wall outlet, without an extension cord or power strip. Levoit specifies a hard, flat, water-resistant surface at least 12 inches from walls, away from direct floor/carpet placement, with mist directed away from furnishings and its aroma-box sensor. Warm mist may be hot on either machine. (Vicks, Levoit)

Optional companion: TempPro TP50. This standalone temperature/humidity display includes high/low records, useful for checking the room independently of the LV600S sensor or the V750 switch. Our indoor humidity and hygrometers guide explains placement and interpretation. (TempPro specifications)

Winter buying checklist: exact models and complete kits

Check the label and contents before choosing a holiday bundle:

  • LV600S: this comparison covers LUH-A602S-WUS, AC 120V, 60Hz. The documented kit includes three aroma pads, three absorption pads and two water-filter sponges, with one of each preinstalled, plus a cleaning brush. Replace pads if they remain stiff after cleaning; the manual directs buyers to official Levoit replacements and customer support.
  • LV600HH: a separate model. Its manual describes a handheld remote and an underside tank cap. Do not transfer the LV600S refill procedure or app assumptions to it. (LV600HH manual)
  • V750: check for its tank and cap, removable tray, mist chimney and medicine cup. The manual requires the cup in place during operation even when you want plain steam. Vicks also sells a similarly named Warm Mist Humidifier with SKU VWM845; that is a different model identifier. Ask Vicks support about parts for the exact V750.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Levoit LV600S a steam humidifier?

Levoit identifies the LV600S as a Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier, with a transducer and a heating element. It offers cool mist and selectable heat settings. The Vicks V750 instead feeds water into a boiling chamber to make steam. Buy the V750 if that steam mechanism is your priority; choose the LV600S for selectable mist and humidity controls.

Does warm mist stop humidifier white dust?

Do not use the warm setting as your water-quality plan. The LV600S manual warns that tap water may leave white dust and recommends purified water. EPA recommends low-mineral water, such as distilled water, for reducing mineral dispersal. EPA says steam vaporizers are not expected to disperse substantial minerals, but the V750 still needs scale removal from its heating area.

Can the Levoit LV600S work without Wi-Fi or an app?

Yes. Its physical controls set mist level, heat, target humidity, timer and display behavior. VeSync adds remote phone control and schedules; the manual specifies a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network for setup. The V750 uses a high/low output switch and manual humidity monitoring. Choose on the controls you will actually use, rather than assuming smart features are required.

Which uses less electricity, the V750 or LV600S?

The verified documents do not establish a comparable consumption figure. The US LV600S manual lists 280W rated power without separate cool-only and warm-mode ratings. The V750 manual gives 120V, 60 Hz but no wattage. Those entries cannot support an hourly running-cost comparison or a measured energy winner. Match the exact regional model before comparing any additional electrical figures.
