For a medium room, our best air purifier for dust is the Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N: Coway publishes separate dust and smoke CADRs, and its pre-filter slides out sideways for cleaning. Choose the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max for a larger room, or the Levoit Vital 200S-P for a front-access pre-filter with explicit washing instructions. A purifier captures airborne particles; keep vacuuming and damp-dusting settled dust.
Official US specifications, manuals and replacement-filter pages checked November 2, 2026. Recommendations are based on documents, without dust-removal or sound tests by thisHUSH.
Quick picks: compare dust CADR and room size
Match the room before choosing the maintenance routine. CADR is clean air delivery rate, expressed here in cubic feet per minute (CFM). These are maker-published values, not independently confirmed AHAM directory results; see How we choose below. “Not specified” means the cited product page does not identify that pollutant's CADR.

Why use smoke CADR on a dust page? AHAM bases its suggested room area on smoke CADR: room sq ft = smoke CADR × 1.55, associated with about 4.8 air changes per hour (ACH) and an 8-foot ceiling. Our Mighty2 estimate is 240 × 1.55 = 372 sq ft; it is a calculation from Coway's rating, not an AHAM listing. Coway's headline 1,800 sq ft instead uses 1 ACH. Comparing that directly with Blueair's 674 sq ft at 4.8 ACH would mislead. AHAM sizing explanation.
Levoit publishes 250 CFM without naming the pollutant. We retain its 388 sq ft at 4.8 ACH manufacturer room claim, but leave both pollutant-specific cells unknown. It cannot take a numeric place in this smoke-CADR chart:
Source: Official maker specifications above; Levoit's CADR pollutant is unspecified.
Do air purifiers work for household dust?
Yes, for airborne particles that reach the filter. EPA explains that particles already settled on surfaces cannot be removed by an air cleaner unless disturbed and suspended again. Keep vacuuming carpets and furniture and wiping surfaces with a damp cloth; EPA says dampening the cloth helps keep settled dust from returning to the air. Settled-particle limits, indoor-dust cleanup.
- Yes: Can filter airborne particles passing through the unit
- No: Cannot vacuum settled dust from floors or shelves
- Partly: Complements ordinary cleaning; does not establish a reduced dusting schedule
Dust CADR describes removal of a standardized test particle, rather than a promise to remove every kind of household debris. EPA distinguishes smoke, dust and pollen as representative small, medium and large test particles. Neither a filter-efficiency percentage nor a dusty pre-filter establishes a whole-room dust-removal result. EPA's CADR explanation.
Best overall for medium rooms: Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
Mighty2 earns our starting recommendation for access, rather than the highest dust number. Its 242 CFM dust and 240 CFM smoke ratings are separately identified, and the pre-filter slides out from the right side. Choose it when the calculated room area above fits and you can leave that side accessible. Coway specifications.

Coway
Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N
The 2026 successor to Coway's Mighty: smoke CADR 240, a side-access pre-filter plus a combined carbon and HEPA filter, a PM1/2.5/10 laser sensor, and a purely mechanical design with no ionizer.
Check package and model options
- 240 CFM smoke CADR
- Removable pre-filter + Max2 filter (activated carbon + HEPA)
- 19 dB lowest setting
There is a consequential care conflict: the product page calls the screen washable, but the US manual directs you to vacuum or wipe it with a dry cloth. Use that dry method pending clarification. The combined Max2 activated-carbon/HEPA filter must not be washed.
Check the full AP-1512N model name. The current replacement page offers Fresh Starter+, Allergen+ and Intense Smoke+ options and also has a Mighty2 Mini selector. Select the full-size Mighty2 filter deliberately; do not buy by “Mighty” alone. The exact everyday option is in the parts table below.
Best for larger rooms: Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max
Blueair publishes the highest dust and smoke CADRs in this shortlist: 452 CFM dust and 435 CFM smoke, with 674 sq ft at 4.8 ACH. That makes it our larger-room choice. Its HEPASilent system combines mechanical and electrostatic filtration; do not mistake the name for a solely mechanical filter design. Blueair specifications.

Blueair
A large-room purifier with a 360-degree intake, a washable fabric pre-filter, PM1/PM2.5/PM10 sensing and app control, rated by Blueair at smoke CADR 435 and 674 sq ft.
Check package and model options
- 435 CFM smoke CADR
- 674 sq ft room
- Washable fabric pre-filter + particle and carbon filter (HEPASilent: mechanical plus electrostatic)
- 23 dB lowest setting
Vacuum the fabric sleeve from outside with a soft brush attachment. For deeper cleaning, the manual says to remove it, wash according to its label and hang it to dry. The main Particle & Carbon filter is not washable.
Buy for the exact 211i Max model. Blueair says CADR and room-size values have been updated for DOE standards and may differ from packaging; the table uses its current web specifications.
Best washable front pre-filter: Levoit Vital 200S-P
Choose the Vital for an explicit washable-screen routine: open the front cover, release the tabs, vacuum the screen, optionally wash it with water and mild detergent, then let it air-dry completely. That routine is documented in the US manual. The main particle/carbon filter is marked “Do not clean.”
The trade-off is specification clarity: the linked US page gives an undifferentiated 250 CFM, not a verified dust or smoke value. It also limits its HEPA-grade wording to operation in Sleep Mode; we do not extend that description to every speed.
This recommendation covers the US LAP-V201S-WUS. Buy a purifier rather than the similarly named Vital 200S Replacement Filter accessory.

Alternative for separate filter changes: Coway Mighty AP-1512HH
The original Mighty is still listed by Coway with 246 CFM dust, 233 CFM smoke and 361 sq ft at 4.8 ACH. Consider it if you prefer a separate deodorization filter and HEPA filter: Coway gives 6 months for the former and 1 year for the latter. Its slightly higher published dust CADR than Mighty2 does not establish better everyday dust control. Exact HH specifications.

Coway
Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH
Coway's long-running mid-size purifier: smoke CADR 233 with a washable pre-filter, carbon deodorization filter and HEPA filter, a particle sensor with auto mode, and a switchable ionizer.
Check package and model options
- 233 CFM smoke CADR
- 361 sq ft room
- Washable pre-filter + carbon deodorization filter + HEPA; switchable ionizer
- 24 dB lowest setting
The pre-filter comes out behind the front cover and can be vacuumed or water-cleaned, then dried completely. The manual also documents a separate ionizer on/off control. This is AP-1512HH, with a different filter arrangement from Mighty2 AP-1512N; match the model plate before ordering parts.

The HH set explicitly includes 1 HEPA filter and 2 deodorization filters. It is a different replacement from Mighty2's combined Max2 design. Blueair offers both one-time and subscription purchases; select the purchase type you intend.
Pre-filter cleaning and main-filter replacement are separate jobs. Mighty2, original Mighty and Vital manuals specify pre-filter cleaning every 2–4 weeks; Blueair says to clean when dust or dirt is visible. Regard replacement intervals as guidance that depends on use, rather than guaranteed service life. Keep Mighty2 to dry cleaning because of the documentation conflict above.
Unplug before service
Follow the exact model's manual before opening or removing filters.
Clean the pre-filter
Use its permitted method; let a washed screen or sleeve dry completely before reinstalling.
Replace the main filter
Use the exact compatible part and the manual's replacement and indicator-reset instructions.
Buying guide: placement and fan speed
Size the whole area it will serve. EPA says to multiply room length by width, include connected space in an open floor plan and allow more capacity for higher ceilings. Its chart pairs a 400 sq ft room with at least 260 CFM CADR at an 8-foot ceiling. Blueair exceeds that threshold on its published smoke rating; neither Coway here does. EPA sizing guidance.
Put it where you use it. EPA recommends the room where you spend the most time, with airflow unobstructed by curtains or furniture. The Vital manual specifies at least 15 inches / 38 cm clear in front. Leave Mighty2's right side accessible and room to remove Blueair's top for washing the sleeve.
Choose a speed you will keep running. EPA says higher speeds and longer run times filter more air, and CADR is typically measured at the highest speed. A lowest-setting noise figure is not evidence of maximum CADR at that setting. We do not assign quiet-mode room sizes without matching airflow data.
If pets and odors drive the purchase, use our air purifiers for pets guide. For bedroom priorities, see quiet air purifiers for bedrooms; for the broader shortlist, use best air purifiers.
How we choose
We compared official US product pages, manuals, exact replacement-filter listings and AHAM's sizing explanation. Awards reflect room fit, documented CADR and access for routine dust cleanup. They do not establish measured dusting reductions or comparative sound performance. See our research method.
AHAM directory check, November 2, 2026: the fetched directory returned an application shell without readable model results. We could not independently confirm these exact listings, so none of the table's CADRs is labelled AHAM-verified. Catalog pages and documentation were checked on the same date; checkout stock was not verified.
Verdict
Choose Mighty2 when its calculated room size fits and side access suits your cleaning routine. Choose Blueair 211i Max for the larger published room rating, Vital 200S-P for its documented washable front screen, or AP-1512HH for separate filter changes. Keep cleaning settled dust whichever you choose.

Frequently asked questions
Do air purifiers work for dust?
Yes, they can filter airborne particles that pass through them. They cannot collect dust already sitting on a shelf or floor unless it becomes airborne again. EPA recommends regular vacuuming and damp-dusting for indoor dust. Choose enough CADR for the room and keep cleaning surfaces; a purifier's specification does not establish how often you will need to dust.
What is CADR, and should I compare dust or smoke CADR?
CADR means clean air delivery rate, commonly expressed in cubic feet per minute. Dust and smoke are different test particles, so keep their ratings separate. Compare dust CADR for the named dust test, then use smoke CADR for consistent AHAM-style room sizing. EPA notes that CADR is typically measured at the highest fan speed, rather than the quietest setting.
Where should I put an air purifier for dust?
Put it in the room where you spend the most time, with airflow clear of curtains and other obstructions. Leave room to reach the pre-filter so cleaning stays practical. Follow the exact manual: Levoit specifies at least 15 inches of clearance in front of the Vital 200S-P, while Mighty2's pre-filter slides out to the right.
Can I wash an air purifier filter instead of replacing it?
Check the layer and model. Levoit permits washing the Vital's pre-filter with mild detergent, and Blueair permits washing its fabric pre-filter according to its label. Their main filters are not washable substitutes for routine replacement. Mighty2's product page calls its pre-filter washable, but its manual specifies vacuuming or a dry cloth; use the manual's dry method pending clarification.
