About this guide

thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.

Choose the Levoit Vital 200S-P for more room capacity or frequent fur cleanup: its maker rates it for 388 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour, and its separate pre-filter is washable. Choose the Core 300S-P for a smaller bedroom or office when its 219 sq ft rating on the same basis is enough and you want a compact body. Both have app controls and Auto Mode; room size and filter access are the stronger reasons to choose between them.

Choose the room rating before the quietest setting

Compare 388 with 219, rather than comparing either with a headline area measured at one air change. AHAM explains that the suggested room size on its Verifide seal uses 4.8 equivalent air changes per hour. Levoit supplies both air-change bases, so there is no need to mix them or calculate a new room rating from an unspecified-pollutant CADR.

Use these ratings as a buying screen:

  • Within the Core's 219 sq ft rating: choose it for compactness; choose the Vital if washable pre-filter access matters more.
  • Above the Core rating, up to the Vital's 388 sq ft rating: the Vital is our choice between these two on the published sizing basis.
  • Beyond the Vital rating: look at larger options in our air purifier buying guide, rather than using the one-change headline to justify either unit.

Measure the whole connected area it will serve. EPA advises accounting for the entire open floor plan and choosing greater capacity for ceilings above 8 feet. It also says CADR is typically measured at the highest speed, and lower speeds filter less air. Neither the 22 dB nor the 23 dB minimum establishes coverage at that setting. These pages do not provide speed-specific CADR alongside the noise figures, or a shared noise measurement setup, so we cannot rank their quietness from those minima. EPA sizing and speed guidance.

Smoke CADR remains unknown here. Our fresh AHAM directory check returned a JavaScript application shell without model-specific results. The maker pages label the figures simply CADR; we have not relabelled either as smoke CADR or presented the room claims as independently verified directory values. AHAM's room-rating explanation supplies the comparison basis, not certification evidence for either exact model.

Best for capacity and pre-filter access: Vital 200S-P

The Vital is our default for a pet household choosing between these models. Levoit specifies an additional U-shaped inlet for airborne fur, and the front cover opens to a pre-filter that releases with tabs. You can remove that layer without treating the main filter as washable. That access is the practical advantage to prioritize if you expect frequent cleanup. Vital US manual.

The standard installed filtration already includes a main particle filter and activated carbon. You do not need a pet-labelled replacement merely to get carbon. Choose the US White/Grey LAP-V201S-WUS covered here; the Vital 200S replacement cartridge is an accessory, not another purifier. See our air purifiers for pets guide for other maintenance designs.

Pet Mode has conflicting documentation. The product page describes alternating high and low speeds; the US manual specifies 15 minutes high, then 60 minutes medium. It is an app-controlled cycling mode, so do not regard it as continuous maximum airflow. The manual also says ordinary Auto Mode does not use turbo speed.

Best compact choice: Core 300S-P

Levoit Core 300S-P Smart Air Purifier

Levoit

Levoit Core 300S

A compact Wi-Fi purifier with a 3-stage filter, sleep mode and app or voice control, sized by Levoit at 219 sq ft on the 4.8-air-change basis.

Check package and model options

  • 219 sq ft room
  • 3-stage filter (Levoit's 'Original' filter; the page does not call it True HEPA)
  • 22 dB lowest setting

Choose the Core when the smaller room rating fits and floor space matters. Its 8.7 × 8.7-inch body is narrower than the Vital's 15.6-inch body, though placement still needs clearance. The Original filter comes installed, and VeSync adds schedules and remote control without requiring the larger Vital housing. Core product specifications.

The maintenance trade-off is underneath: unplug it, turn it over and twist off the base to reach the cartridge. Its outer pre-filter needs dry brushing or vacuuming. Choose the Vital if separately removing and washing that first layer is a priority.

The smart model's sales name is Core 300S-P; its specification block calls it Core 300S, and the linked manual covers both series names. Core 300-P is a separate listing with model Core 300. Its page also includes lower-page copy about the 300S-P, so avoid transferring specifications between those sections. Our Core 300 variants guide covers that broader family choice; this comparison uses the smart model's own specification block and manual.

Filter care, replacements and buying traps

Both manuals recommend pre-filter cleaning every 2–4 weeks. For the Vital, use a soft brush or vacuum, or wash the removed pre-filter with water and mild detergent; reinstall it only after it has air-dried completely. For the Core, brush or vacuum the cartridge's outer layer and do not use water or other liquids. Neither manual permits cleaning the main filter.

Replacement intervals differ, and the Vital's own sources disagree. Its manual says 12 months, adjusted for use, while the standard replacement-filter page says 6–12 months. The Core manual says 6–8 months, also adjusted for use. Regard those as inspection and replacement guidance, rather than guaranteed service life.

Order within the right family:

  • Vital: use a replacement explicitly for the Vital 200S-P series. The standard replacement already lists activated carbon.
  • Core: the US smart-series manual names Core 300-P-RF as the Original cartridge. The single-filter page has a conflict: its restrictive compatibility line omits Core 300S-P, but its summary includes it. The two-pack explicitly names both purifiers and calls its cartridges Core 300-RF. Confirm the exact single cartridge with Levoit before ordering, and check pack quantity.

Do not interchange Vital and Core filter families. Also keep Levoit's HEPA-grade wording attached to its stated condition: the Vital product page and the linked replacement pages qualify it as Sleep Mode performance. We do not turn that into an all-speed filter classification.

Carbon does not make Auto Mode an odor detector. EPA says CADR rates particles, with no widely used equivalent rating for gas filtration; effective carbon filtration depends on the amount of material. These cited specifications do not give carbon mass, so we cannot rank odor capacity or justify a specialty filter from its name alone.

Sensors, Auto Mode and bedroom lights

The Vital uses an infrared dust sensor; the Core uses an AirSight Plus laser dust sensor. Both adjust fan speed in Auto Mode, and both manuals say their dust sensor cannot detect gas. A blue indicator therefore does not settle an odor complaint. We have no matched sensor-accuracy results that justify choosing one on the sensor technology name alone.

Both offer Sleep Mode and a separate display-off control. Both manuals say the filter-check indicator can remain lit when attention is needed. If you want a dark display while keeping a chosen manual speed, use display-off rather than assuming Sleep Mode preserves that speed.

The Vital's Light Detection can change airflow, not just brightness. Its manual says the feature is off by default; when enabled in a dark room, it turns off the display and prevents high or turbo speed in Auto or Pet Mode. Review that setting if your reason for buying the Vital was greater room capacity. The Core manual also says its Quiet Auto Mode avoids the highest speed. Quiet automation is not evidence of full-speed coverage.

Where to put either purifier

The Vital manual requires at least 15 inches / 38 cm in front. The Core manual requires at least 15 inches / 38 cm on all sides. Both direct you to a flat, stable surface and warn against blocked airflow, including curtains. Those instructions matter more than the body dimensions alone.

Check the actual spot before buying
  1. Leave the specified intake space

Vital: at least 15 inches / 38 cm in front. Core: at least 15 inches / 38 cm on all sides. Keep airflow clear of curtains.

  2. Allow access for maintenance

Leave the Vital front cover accessible. Plan to unplug and turn over the Core to open its base.

  3. Unwrap the installed filter before use

Both manuals require removing the filter's plastic packaging, then refitting the filter and cover.

EPA recommends the room where you spend the most time and keeping airflow unobstructed. Its guidance also permits redirecting an uncomfortable draft. Place the purifier where you can meet its clearance and service instructions, rather than squeezing it into a furniture gap because the cabinet fits.

How we choose

We compared current US product specification blocks with their linked manuals and official replacement-filter pages. We checked the AHAM directory, preserved missing smoke values, and used AHAM and EPA guidance to explain sizing and speed. We have not physically evaluated either purifier. The choices above prioritize matched room ratings, accessible maintenance and documented controls; documentation conflicts and unknown low-speed output remain explicit. More on how we choose.

Verdict

Get the Vital 200S-P for the larger published room rating and washable pre-filter access. Get the Core 300S-P for a smaller room where compactness matters and dry cartridge cleaning suits you. Choose on the shared 4.8-ACH figures, keep the correct replacement family, and plan for the fan speed and clearance you will actually use.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Levoit Vital 200S better than the Core 300S?

Choose the Vital 200S-P for its larger published room rating and removable washable pre-filter. Choose the Core 300S-P when its 219 sq ft rating at 4.8 air changes per hour fits your room and you prefer the smaller body. Both offer VeSync controls and sensor-based Auto Mode. The Vital's 388 sq ft rating uses the same air-change basis; neither rating establishes Sleep Mode coverage.

Do Core 300 filters fit the Vital 200S?

Buy by the exact purifier family. Levoit's Vital replacement is explicitly for the Vital 200S-P series; the Core 300S-P manual specifies Core 300-P-RF for its Original cartridge. Core single-filter compatibility wording conflicts with its own summary, while the official two-pack explicitly names Core 300S-P. Confirm the exact Core single cartridge with Levoit before ordering; do not substitute a Vital-family filter.

Can you wash the filters in either purifier?

Only the Vital's separate pre-filter has washing instructions: water and mild detergent, followed by complete air-drying. Keep its main particle/carbon filter dry. The Core's manual calls for brushing or vacuuming the outer pre-filter and explicitly forbids water or other liquids. Both manuals recommend pre-filter cleaning every 2–4 weeks; that routine does not replace main-filter changes.

Can these purifiers work without Wi-Fi?

Both manuals provide local buttons for fan speed, Sleep Mode and Auto Mode, so app setup is optional for those controls. VeSync adds remote control and schedules; the Vital's Pet Mode is documented among its app functions. For app setup, both manuals specify a secure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Voice control connects through VeSync.
