About this guide

thisHUSH covers comfort, quiet and air-quality gear, not health. Nothing on this site is medical advice: for sleep, breathing or hearing concerns, talk to a doctor.

Choose the Yogasleep Dohm Classic for a white noise machine you adjust entirely by hand: low/high fan speed, a rotating cap and a tone collar. Choose SNOOZ Pro if you want real-fan sound with optional app schedules and fades, plus stepped volume control. Our default pick for physical simplicity is the Dohm; for automatic routines, get the Pro.

This comparison concerns the SNOOZ Pro and US Dohm Classic, with the LectroFan Classic as a digital alternative. Features and maker guidance checked November 2, 2026.

Quick picks

  • Dohm Classic: pick it when you want to set a fan sound manually and leave it alone; no app or built-in timer.

  • SNOOZ Pro: pick it for automatic on/off routines, fades and optional phone control; it still works without the app.

  • LectroFan Classic: change direction if you want selectable pink or brown noise rather than a real fan.

The Dohm's two speeds are not its only sound adjustments: the cap and collar also shape volume and tone. Likewise, SNOOZ's 10 volume levels are not 10 different sound recordings.

Best for physical simplicity: Yogasleep Dohm Classic

Yogasleep Dohm Classic Fan-Based Sound Machine (White)

Yogasleep

Yogasleep Dohm Classic

Yogasleep's original fan-based sound machine: a real fan motor inside an adjustable housing makes a steady, non-looping rush of air, with two speeds, a rotating cap for volume and a collar for tone.

Check package and model options

The Dohm Classic suits someone who wants physical controls and no phone setup. Its internal fan generates the sound without a speaker or digital audio. Select low or high, then rotate the cap for volume and the collar for tone, from a lower hum toward a brighter rush of air.

That makes it our pick for a bedside machine you set and leave in place. Choose it for the control scheme; we cannot tell you whether its particular fan tone will be your favorite.

Its limitation is automation: Yogasleep lists no app, sleep timer or night light for the Classic. If you want the sound to start and stop automatically without adding another device, the Pro is the better fit.

Best for scheduled control: SNOOZ Pro

SNOOZ Pro Fan-Based White Noise Machine (Cotton)

    SNOOZ

    SNOOZ Pro

A fan-based sound machine with a real fan inside, 10 volume levels, a tone knob, a travel case and an optional, subscription-free app for schedules and remote control.

    Check package and model options

The Pro adds control options around a real internal fan: 10 volume levels, a dedicated bottom tone knob and an optional iOS/Android app. SNOOZ support explains the knob direction: counterclockwise gives the deepest tone; clockwise gives the lightest.

Manual operation needs no app or subscription. The app adds remote control, up to 7 schedules per day, fade in/out, night light mode and button-brightness adjustment; schedules can differ by day of the week. For someone who wants the machine running before entering the room, that scheduler is the main reason to choose it.

The connection is Bluetooth, and SNOOZ support says internet access is only required for firmware updates. SNOOZ also lists a short-session timer for updated Pro devices, so check the current app and device firmware if that feature matters. It supports smart-plug on/off operation when enabled, according to support.

Keep the buying distinction clear: phone control is optional, but the automatic routines are a reason to use the app. If you intend to ignore those routines, choose between the physical controls instead.

Check the exact model before ordering

SNOOZ Pro versus Original: both use real fans, but the Original adjusts tone by rotating its outer shell; Pro uses a bottom knob and includes a protective travel case. Do not buy an Original assuming it has the Pro's housing and tone control.

Dohm Classic versus the other Dohms: Uno has one fan speed; Classic and the modern-design Dohm have two; Nova has ten plus a night light and timer; Connect has app control. Those features belong to separate models, not selectable Classic modes.

Match the model name, finish, unit quantity and included accessories before following an offer.

Buying guide: power, placement and everyday adjustments

Moving between rooms or taking one abroad

Both fan machines require external power; neither is a cordless choice. Pro includes its case and a 100–240 V adapter with a US plug; SNOOZ specifies an outlet adapter for international use. The US Dohm Classic is a 120 V AC machine that Yogasleep specifies for the United States and Canada only.

For international trips, we would choose Pro with the appropriate outlet adapter rather than assume the US Classic is suitable. For use away from external power, choose from our portable sound machines.

      Before packing a fan machine
      • Yes: Pro: protective travel case included.
      • Partly: Pro abroad: adapter accepts 100–240 V; check the destination's outlet shape.
      • No: US Classic: maker specifies 120 V AC and US/Canada use only.
      • No: Cordless operation: neither of these fan machines.

Set the sound before adding routines

Start with manual adjustment so you know which sound you want to keep. Use this order as a practical setup checklist:

Match the controls to your machine
      1. Choose volume

Dohm: select low/high and adjust the cap. Pro: use its manual volume control.

      2. Shape the tone

Dohm: rotate the collar. Pro: adjust the bottom knob.

      3. Add automation if wanted

Pro: set schedules and fades in the optional app. Classic: no built-in timer.

Source: Dohm controls and Pro controls

If a Pro schedule runs at the wrong time, SNOOZ support says reconnecting the app should synchronize the scheduler with your phone's current time.

Published loudness does not decide the winner

SNOOZ lists 46–87 dBA measured at the device. Yogasleep lists up to 57.4 decibels on high at six feet. We cannot turn those differently measured figures into a louder/quieter ranking or a promise about masking a specific noise.

For general placement, SNOOZ suggests 3–6 feet from your head, between you and the noise source. Its Pro page gives separate nursery guidance: at least 7 feet from the baby's sleeping area, with volume at a comfortable level.

Keep those contexts separate when choosing a position. The maximum output figure is not a recommended setting.

Confirm direct-sale trial and warranty terms

Yogasleep's Classic product page states a 30-night trial and a one-year limited warranty, but its comparison page says 101 nights and a multi-year limited warranty for direct purchases.

Those maker pages conflict. Confirm the terms for your seller and exact order before relying on a trial or warranty; our recommendation does not depend on the longer promise.

      Best digital alternative: LectroFan Classic

LectroFan Classic White Noise and Fan Sound Machine (White)

      LectroFan

      LectroFan Classic

A compact digital sound machine from Adaptive Sound Technologies with 10 fan sounds and 10 non-repeating noise variations from brown through pink to white, powered over USB.

      Check package and model options

      • 20 sounds

Get the LectroFan Classic if you want sound choices rather than the mechanics of a real fan. ASTI lists 20 digital sounds: ten fan sounds and ten noise variations, including pink and brown. It describes both groups as non-repeating, so do not assume a digital machine necessarily plays a short repeating recording.

It runs from the supplied USB/AC adapter or any powered USB port. It plays continuously by default, or its timer adds 60 minutes per press before a gradual shutoff, according to the owner's manual.

This is the better direction if the question behind your comparison is actually which noise color you want. Our white vs pink vs brown noise guide explains the choices; the broader white noise machine guide covers other formats.

      How we choose

We compare documented controls, sound generation, power requirements and maker placement guidance. This page uses manufacturer product pages, SNOOZ's linked help center and ASTI's manual; it contains no listening scores or acoustic-performance ranking. Recommendations express which workflow fits a buyer, not a claimed preference after using both machines.

We read the Dohm comparison table by model column and keep its other models' features separate. Different-distance sound figures stay labeled, and conflicting maker terms stay visible. See How we choose for the site's research approach.

      Verdict

Choose Dohm Classic when physical simplicity is the priority; its low/high switch, cap and collar provide the adjustments without an app. Choose SNOOZ Pro for scheduled on/off routines, fades and its internationally compatible adapter. Choose LectroFan Classic instead if selectable pink and brown noise matter more than having a real fan inside.

      Frequently asked questions

Does SNOOZ Pro need an app, Wi-Fi or a subscription?

No app is needed for manual volume and tone adjustment, and SNOOZ says there is no subscription. The optional iOS and Android app adds schedules, fades and remote control. SNOOZ support specifies Bluetooth communication and says an internet connection is only required for firmware updates. Its documented connection is Bluetooth; do not assume control from anywhere over Wi-Fi.

Is SNOOZ Pro louder than the Yogasleep Dohm Classic?

The published figures cannot establish that. SNOOZ lists 46–87 dBA measured at the device; Yogasleep lists up to 57.4 decibels on high at six feet. Those are different measurement conditions, so we do not use them to rank loudness or predict which will cover a particular noise in your room.

Does the Dohm Classic have a timer or an app?

No: Yogasleep's comparison table lists neither a timer nor app control for the Dohm Classic. Its low and high speeds work with a rotating cap and collar for sound adjustment. Do not transfer features from other Dohm models: the Nova has a night light and timer, while the Connect has app control.

Can SNOOZ Pro or Dohm Classic play brown noise?

Both make their sound with an actual internal fan; their tone adjustment shapes that fan sound rather than selecting a digital brown-noise track. For selectable pink and brown noise variations, choose the digital LectroFan Classic instead. Its maker also describes its sounds as non-repeating, so digital does not automatically mean a short loop.

Can I use either machine abroad or without an outlet?

SNOOZ Pro's 100–240 V adapter works internationally with an appropriate outlet adapter, but it needs external power. The US Dohm Classic runs on 120 V AC, and Yogasleep specifies use in the United States and Canada only. For a cordless machine, see the separate battery-powered choices in our portable sound-machine guide.
